Re: what water pump? aluminum

Long water pump. If V belt system it will be std. clockwise rotation. If the 1 belt serpentine system it will be a reverse rotation pump

Re: what water pump? aluminum

You can get an aluminum water pump from any of your basic parts stores (Napa, autozone, advanced, etc.).

And it will probably be cheaper at that.

I've run a parts store water pump on my crate engine for 8 years now, no issues.

Never even thought of asking if a cheap aluminum pump was avalible for a serp belt car.

Well, apparently availability has changed over the course of 8-9 years LOL.

Couldn't find any at your go-to shops. Found this one on Amazon though:

Amazon.com: Proform 67265 High Flow Aluminum Water Pump: Automotive Amazon.com: Proform 67265 High Flow Aluminum Water Pump: Automotive

I'm guessing that they stopped selling the knock-offs now that you can custom order edelbrocks, etc from there.

Re: what water pump? aluminum

Never seen a cheeeeeep aluminum WP for SBC at yerbasic parts store. Or even, an inexpensive one. Or really even, ANY at all. I'd be interested in seeing about this as well. Of course I've only been doing this for 40-some yrs now, so who knows, maybe it'[s snuck up on me or something.

Still, I wouldn't make a point of going for cheeeeeeeeep. You get, AT BEST, what you pay for; and usually something a little less than that. So, if you pay THE LEAST, then you can expect to get, AT BEST, ... you do the rest of the math.

Gotta wonder what the country of origin of that cheeeeeeeepie is... my guess is, you'd be financing the Red Army by buying it.

Most likely the computer your typing this on is as well

Unfortunatley I don't have a brand name, or 9 year old receipt. Clearly it's not an option anymore so OP - disregard what I said. That time has come and gone.

Re: what water pump? aluminum

I just had my Edelbrock wp rebuilt for 75 bux after almost 20yrs. I had a GM performance parts aluminum WP i just installed on my 89 formula 350. (had to be modded a bit to fit in the factory brackets. probably why GM disc it.)
Both were pricey when new and I was just wondering if there were cheeeepie copies these days.
May give one of these a try to see just how bad they are.

Re: what water pump? aluminum

None of the ones GT linked to are correct; they're all short style (68-back), clockwise rotation. Won't work in your car.

At least I have a choice about where my water pumps are made... computer parts, not so much. I take advantage of the choice not to give my money to ... them ... when available to me.

Re: what water pump? aluminum

I've noticed that a lot of the companies are using the older looking housing even for the reverse rotation pumps. Even my GM aluminum water pump for the serp setup used the older housing with nipple bung on top and all the extra bracket bosses. I had to trim the crap out of the pump to make it fit the serp brackets.

Thanx for that..... I noticed the V-belt bracket bosses on some 'reverse flow' pumps and had to look twice. I couldn't remember ever seeing that before. (granted; it's been awhile since I've searched for a new Aluminum pump !! ) I wondered how those would look/fit when installed, now I know !
