Easy to change, and no and no (not programmed and not in the kick panel), and yes.

Remove the hush panel from under the passenger side dash (7mm hex heads).

ECM is the silver box (if original), push the bottom of it toward the front of the car, once clear of the lower edge of the slide mount pull it straight down.

Disconnect the three connectors by depressing the tabs and pulling.

Remove the two screws (1/4" hex head) from the small cover. Depress the two clips on each side of the MEMCAL to remove it.

Install MEMCAL into new ECM and reverse the procedure.

Note that there is a small strip of Velcro on the bottom of the ECM. This holds it into the slide mount. I mention this as the new ECM may not have it.

Re: how difficultis it to change ECM?

Great....thanks for the info. When I ordered my ECm, I had to give them my VIN. They told me that when it arrived, it would already be programmed to my car. If its not, how do I get it programmed to work in the car? ive been battling this problem for 4 weeeks now. I have changed out the entire fuel system. As soon as the ambient temp started dropping outside, it wouldnt start in teh morning when it is cold outside. SIcne I changed eerything else out, I tried putting a floor heater in the passenger side floorboard. After about 15 minutes of warmeing it up with the heater, the car fired right up and all day long until later in the evening when the inside of the car got cool again.

The calibration is in the MEMCAL, which you need to swap from your old ECM to the new ECM. I doubt that the new ECM will have a MEMCAL, re-man's usually (always?) don't.

There is a picture of the MEMCAL in the sticky's up top of this board.

Sorry for my ignorance...is the MEMCAL something that is unplugged from the old ECM and replugged into the new one, or is this something that I have to have to take somehwere to have somehting done to it first.

pull the access cover on the ecm, the memcal is blue there are two tabs to release the memcal a white and blue. move the back to release the memcal. there is a small notch one the side of the memcal match that up with the new ecm and install.

Re: how difficultis it to change ECM?

Kool. thanks. just waiting for new CM to arrive. It was shipped out from VA this morning, so hopefully I can get it up and running this weekend. Been stumped with this for 4 weeks now. i changed out the entire fuel system already, and when its below 60 degrees ambient temp outside it wont start and no pressure at the Shrader valve. As soon as it gets warm outside, it fires right up everytime. I put a floor heater in the pasenger floor board in teh morning and within 15 minutes, it fired right up.

Re: how difficultis it to change ECM?

YA THINK??? I just hope this ECm change is it. I cant think of what else I can change. I have also just put on new front rotors, pads, inner and outer wheel bearings, water pump, thermostat, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ingintion module, replaced the steering column and ingition, shifter cable, new 3" exhaust from the "Y" pipe back to a flowmaster, serpentine belt, battery. New Falken 245/50/16's on front and 255/50/16's on the back. havent even put 500 miles on it with all teh replacements. Was going through it to let me step-son drive it, and found he can handle the car. He needs to srtick to a 2 cylinder engine. Putting it for sale now probably

The memcal is often referred to as the car's "chip"
