ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

Hey guys,

I've found a thread on here where you guys were looking for an Android app for your ECU so I decided I would announce it here.

I created ALDLdroid, an OBDI Android app for ALDL ECU. It uses TunerPro ADX and XDF files for ease of uses and to support as much ECUs as possible. It uses the ADX to connect to the ECU and read the data stream, just like TunerPro. Dashboard can be fully customized by double tapping on the dashboard and entering edit mode. It will data log in CSV format and if your Android device has GPS sensor and/or triple axis accelerometer, all this will be logged into the data logs. It will also log G Force. There is a tuning section that can edit BIN file but doesn't (yet) support real-time tuning with an emulator such as the Moates Ostrich. I have an Ostrich, BURN2 and all the other goodies on order that should arrive any day now so real-time tuning will be added in a near future (assuming I'm able to figure everything out, I should).

The app supports both 160 baud and 8192 baud ECUs and can be viewed/downloaded here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...roux.aldldroid.

The app supports both Bluetooth and USB connectivity as long as your Android device supports it (look for USB host mode). The USB adapter have to be FTDI based and for Bluetooth, you can get an adapter here: http://www.reddevilriver.com/ALDL_Bluetooth.php. Their USB cable works great as well with the app.

The app is pretty solid now having been tested by quite a few folks over at gearhead-efi.com, thanks to them. I have a bit over 50 users using this app successfully. I believe there is only a few code masks used in third gen F-body so it should be easy to get you guys going if there is ever any issue with one code mask or something.

So if you want to try it, please go ahead. If you run into any issue, I will do my best to help. Read the reviews currently on the app, you will see I won't let you down!

The price reflect the small market this app is targeting and the crazy amount of work that went into it. If you have anything negative to say about the price and don't know what kind of work is required to make something like this happen, please think twice before replying

Please let me know what you guys think!

I have been trying to get this app to work with the ADS file included in SAUJP V4 but After i select that *.ADX file it crashes the app. Any ideas?

The app only works with ADX file. Or is that what you mean ? Please attach the ADX file in this thread and I will have a look Thanks

To convert the .ADS to .ADX, open Tuner pro "import" ADS and then save as an ADX. It should work for you then.

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

Thanks I will try converting the ADS file, But I was using the ADX file that is included in the SAUJP 1026 archive. 91z24 Here is a link to the zip, the ADX file i was trying to use is in the Scannerpro directory. http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...5&d=1323220370

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

The Scanner Pro ADX likely won't work with this app, as it doesn't work with Tuner Pro.

There was a change to the ADX file system sometime around the public release of Tuner Pro V5, that broke any Scanner Pro ADX functionality in Tuner Pro.

Best bet here is to import an ADS to Tuner Pro and save as an ADX, to get the current ADX file system that is also supported by the ALDLdroid app.

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

Like Chris said, this is a very old ADX format from 7+ years ago so the app is having problem with it, it's actually an invalid XML format. I've converted the ADX file to the new format: http://monbazou.com/filedump/seb/JP8D%20V4%201024.adx. I can confirm that the app does load this ADX file but I don't have the same ECU as you to test that it communicates fine. If the file was fine to begin with, it should still be OK.

Let me know if you have any further issue.

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

should be using the 1026 version.
It is ADX, not sure why there was a problem.
Be sure to update the couple if items listed in the S_AUJP V4 thread.

edit: I guess I did only have ADS in the archive.
update needed

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

Hey guy's I'm still not having any luck with this. I have tried loading the ads file in the 1026 folder into tunerpro and converting it to an ADX and when I try and connect to the ecu with the app I get an error saying "incorrect response length from ECU (4 vs 70) same happens with the ADX in the link 91z24 listed (that one is for ver1024 and I am using 1026 but i tried it anyway with the same result) can anyone confirm that they have had this app working with SAUJP v4? I have tried it using my xperia z1 phone and my old xoom tablet.

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

That's weird...

What Android device are you trying with ? Are you connecting using Bluetooth or USB ? If USB, are you sure your Android device support USB host mode ?

Attaching your ADX here would help also. I'm curious what could be different in there if there is really an issue with the app as 75+ users are using the app without issue these days.

Thank you

Tried it with a sony xperia z1, and a motorola xoom tablet. Both using bluetooth. As for the ADX i have tried several 8D ADX's including the one you posted above.

And you use TunerPro with Bluetooth too ?

Is it a red devil river adapter ? What color is the adapter LED flashing ?

Try my latest file.
It is a true ADX.
Only use the 1026 bin with it.

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

JP thanks for the updated adx it looks great, now i hav to ask if you are going to release a v5 of SAUJP? I am still not able to get ALDLDROID to work though, not sure if the problem is the app or the red devil device. If i select connect to ecu from within the app (with the ignition off) i get the blue and green lights on the red devil and a "no response from ecu" message from the app, this suggests to me that the phone/app is talking to the bluetooth device. If i then turn the ignition on i get a "incorrect response length from ecu 4 vs 70 " error message and all the parameters read 0.

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

This sounds more and more like an adapter issue. It also sounds like your using TunerPro with USB and ALDLdroid with Bluetooth, correct ? The Bluetooth adapter will try to figure out your ECU baud rate and let you know what it found by the LED color.

Pin D - Idle flashes Green - Connected White with Yellow flashes (now changed to Blue) - Speed 4800 - unidirectional data
Pin E - Idle flashes Blue - Connected Green with Gold flashes - Speed 4800 - unidirectional data
Pin M - Idle flashes Red - Connected Blue with Purple flashes - Speed 9600 - bidirectional data

Your ECU is a pin M (8192 baud) so it should flash red at idle and blue with purple flash when connected. If you get some other colors, you should email Timm at red devil river to let him know of the issue. If the adapter configure the wrong baud rate, the app will never work and nothing can be done about it on the app side, the adapter has to send it the data in the right format

Let me know what you find!

I was looking into this because I want to decide if the usb or bluetooth is a better solution.. wireless is always nice as I can plug it into my car stereo for power from the BT adapter.. but

"NOTE - Your diagnostic software must be able to receive the data stream as 9600 baud. Instructions are included on how to implement this with TunerPro/TunerPro RT"

Does this mean WinALDL for Android will NOT work because it only listens at 4800 baud?

If by WinALDL for Android you mean ALDLdroid then yes, it will work with both 160 baud and 8192 baud and Bluetooth no problem Remember that the baud rate is defined in the ADX file so it can always be changed either way

But I can't use the WinALDL program on a PC itself right? I'm assuming this because for the BT he mentions programs like tunepro and not WinALDL for PC and the fact it only supports 9600 baud. I think WinALDL only supports 4800 baud.. am I correct here?

Isn't your version of WinALDL for droid based a port of the PC version or is it written from scratch?

It's written from scratch. The only relation it has with a desktop app is that it shares the same ADX/XDF file format as TunerPro

holy smokes.. you have every right to charge a measly $19 or whatever it is for that.. I'm IT but I HATE programming.. so yeah people.. that some crazy skills right there.. I might just go with the USB that was I can use yours and the PC version if I ever need it for another car.. plus the USB is $25 cheaper or something..

Happy to see some people realise the amount of work that went into this, thanks for that USB version will work great, just make sure your Android device supports USB host mode!

It should.. it's a galaxy note II.. those are relatively new.. I think it's some 2.1 android phones and nearly all 3.x+ should support it I believe..

Yes, the galaxy note II does support it. USB host mode was introduced in Android 3.0 but that doesn't mean all Android devices with 3.0+ took advantage of it right away. For example, I have an HTC one V with Android 4.0 that doesn't support it

Just got the app and cable. I have an Asus Transformer Infinty with an OTG adapter I bought off ebay and the ALDL Cable. It took a day or so but it works great. I'm dropping a new motor in the Corvette in a few weeks and this will help out a lot. I can data log all day and give the log files to Kevin for my tune. Hey, for a total of about $80 it aint bad.

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

I think I've found what I've been wishing for! My old 1999 vintage laptop running Diacom is dead, and I've wanted an Android app to replace it.

I have a few questions though. I do not have any tuning needs or desires at this time. I just want data logging and access to ECM data for diagnosing issues. I have no experience with TunerPro, so the ADX file stuff is greek to me.

I do recall from my Diacom days, it came with two adapters, one "Fast" for TPIs. I need this setup for a stock 5.7L 1988 GTA. Is anyone here using the Red River Bluetooth adapter for TPI that is the same baud as a '88?

It appears this is the one I need: 12 Pin ALDL - GM 82-93 & some 94-95 Supports both 160 Baud Pin E and 8192 Pin M protocols

Do I need to purchase TunerPro, too, or is the correct ADX file available online in the public domain?

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

I don't know what code mask that '88 5.7 is running but I'm sure the answer is on this forum. You don't need to buy TunerPro, you just need the ADX file that match the code mask that is loaded on your ECU (again, I'm sure its posted somewhere on here). That bluetooth adapter should work no problem, you can always email Timm to ask if you want to be 100% sure.

Yes, the ALDL streams are active in the EBL products.

At this point, anything with an ADX file should work. If it doesn't, I will be happy to take a look but most of them work out of the box these days. I wasn't sure if dynamic efi ECUs came with an ADX file but seems like RBob confirmed so that's great!

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

We don't supply an ADX file for the ALDL data streams. The EBL Flash is the same as the '8746 ECM ($61). With the EBL P4 and SFI-6 same as $8D, although not exactly the same. The important parts are with some of the status flags not being the same.

Wow, just great work. I've always dreamed of an android app like this. I'm assuming its the 'AlDLDroid' for $18.59? If so, definitely buying it. Just need to find the adx file :O

Yep, that should be the one. Just click the link in the first post if you want to be 100% sure

And I'm sure somebody on here can hook you up with an ADX file, there isn't that many different one for these cars as far as I know.

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

Got this app a little while ago and it's awesome. However, I use two different codemasks in different cars. Is there a way to switch dashboards when the selected .adx is changed?

Unfortunately, not really. Some sort of profiles system could be implemented but it's not that trivial. It's already on the TODO list but we'll see when I can get to it. I guess in the mean page using one page of dashboard for an ADX and another page for another might be a workaround... a not so pretty one. Otherwise, obviously two Android devices is another possibility but again, not very pretty solution :P

I got a Amazon kindle "Fire" for Christmas in 2015. Is this app compatible with its operating system? I haven't a clue.

It should be running Android I believe... Do you have Google Play on there ? If so, it should be OK. I don't know if USB host mode exists (depends on the version you have probably) or if they are supporting Bluetooth but you will need one of those two to connect to your ECU

Re: ALDLdroid, Android app for your stock ECU, now on Play!

Did you ever get the S_AUJP ADX file to work?
I do not have a way to connect my Android or BT to OBDI adapter to try.
Have plenty of PC equipment already running it but would invest a little to have another option.
