$61 - 746 - Ostrich - WinADL
So like others, I have my first data log but i don't know enough about compression ratio's or any other deep numbers stuff. I am hoping for a gracious person to "help me out".
Specs:
89 RS with a 92 5.7 roller 4 bolt main block with swirl port heads, zz4 cam, flat topped forged pistons, 700R4 trans, and stock rear. (not sure ratio). Running Ostrich 2.0 with stock ANLU bin.
Symptoms:
Hard to start, pulsating idle, hesitation on load.

Re: $61 - 746 - Ostrich - WinADL
Couple of issues that need fixing first. Have malfunction codes for O2 sensor (13), fuel pump relay and PROM. The PROM one is easy to get while messing with the emulator.
The fuel pump relay code should be looked into. The pump may be running from the oil pressure switch.
Code 13 for the O2 sensor needs to be fixed before further tuning is done. The signal to the ECM is basically sitting at 450 mV. This is also preventing the ECM from going into closed loop.
Has the injector flow been bumped up and the fuel pump updated?

Re: $61 - 746 - Ostrich - WinADL
Thank you for the prompt response. I would like to know where you are getting this from in the log too if possible. Not looking for a full lesson (I am pretty good at google) but column and defaults maybe if willing.
O2 sensor - I did forget to say that I added headers and the cat has been removed as well as the O2 sensor for exhaust. I was told this was not needed?!? If you are talking Intake O2, I will replace. Let me know please.
Fuel pump - I have installed the 350 injectors and fuel pressure regulator (new) but kept stock pump. I will replace fuel sensor tonight. It is cheep.
I have not made any changes to my bin file yet. completely stock.
Sorry I am being dense. I just don't like to assume things.

Re: $61 - 746 - Ostrich - WinADL
See the attached image for the malfunction codes being shown.
As for the exhaust O2 sensor, if you are planning on running open loop fueling it isn't required. But is required for closed loop fueling which is also helpful for tuning. Can use the long term fuel trims (BLM) to get the VE table adjusted.
There is no intake air O2 sensor, not sure about what fuel sensor you are referring to either.

Fuel relay...not sensor. sorry.
So you said that the Code 13 should be fixed before further tuning. So if i am understanding you right, I need to have the exhaust O2 sensor added before doing anything further?
As to Prom error...anything to be done or just live with? Edit: Went back to our conversation on 12/7 "Changing the MaskID to $AA tells the ECM code to ignore the checksum failure.
RBob." Thanks!

Re: $61 - 746 - Ostrich - WinADL
So I have to admit, I really have not played with WinAldl much. I just spent a few min actually looking at the logs and interface (old laptop died, had to set up again). It is starting to make since. I don't know what you mean by using the long term fuel trims to get the VE table adjusted. but I am starting a google search. I am also working on resolving the Fuel pump relay code. More to come soon.

So I also have a 89 Firebird with a 305. I took the fuel pump relay from it and put in camaro. Still codes. Next is to pop the 15 bucks for a new one but i suspect it is a wiring issue at this point. unngg.. wiring..

Up top in the Tuning Guide Book sticky are some beginning articles on tuning. Then further through there are tech articles on the various ECMs. For yours look for the '8746/'7747/'8063 section in chapter 5.
If the fuel pump relay isn't getting energized, that will cause a long cranking time. Will need to build oil pressure to close that switch to turn on the fuel pump.
Note that the ECM provides +12 volts (battery) at key-on to power the fuel pump relay. This activates the relay. It is common for the ECM's transistor to pop. It is 29 cents for a new one and 15 minutes of work to replace it.

Re: $61 - 746 - Ostrich - WinADL
So I looked at the ECM's transistors. They look ok. no burn marks or swelling. I have a friend that did all my soldering work. I will see if he can "check/replace" them. Any idea which of the 4 it is?
As to the sticky, I have found that and started kinda reviewing what i can understand. I hope the more i read a light will come on at some point. Edit: "The not so "black magic" in diy-prom tuning." Turned on a light, maybe not the light, but a light.
Thank you for your help deeply! I know I am doing all the "noob" stuff. thank you for having patience with me.
