hatch pulldown motor
If you remove the motor housing like your not supposed to, is there a trick to get it back on and make it work?

What did you do? Take off the metal casing for the actual motor, and the windings were exposed? If so, the only thing that comes to mind is PITA to get back together. I fooled with mine for a couple hours after doing the same thing, but got it back together and it worked. Turns out the Nylon gears were the culprit of my problems. But sometimes you learn the hard way. It's been a while since then, so I couldnt give any tips, but if you got a pic. of youre problem, it would be much eaiser to help out.

My instructions that come with either the nylon guides or the hatch repair kits recommend that you don't remove the metal cover on the motor. Removing the cover is a common mistake that people make when attempting to repair their hatch pull-down units. Most of the time the brushes get damaged when you attempt to repair the motor or put the cover back on after mistakenly removing it. If you get it to work after consider yourself lucky or skilled or both. Just to let everyone know, GM discontinued this style of motor. The replacement motor is a new style that has the motor housing (clear plastic part that contains the gear nut) attached with two screws. Previously the motor fits into a slot on the motor housing. The good news is that I stock both the new style motor and used old-style motor.
Those contemplating repairing their hatch pull-down units should first download the instructions first. There is more than one potential pitfall.
