horn woes
i think my horn harness is toast...
i pulled the old horn and bought a new one and hooked it up in place of the old one, no go, then i pulled the airbag and hook it up directly to the source and since i went through like 3-4 NEW horns i dunno what to do anymore
do i need a horn to pass inspection in texas? that goes out at the end of this month

Check the relay inside the pass side trim panels. It does NOT look like the rest of the relays in the car, in that it is a long square box with rounded corners and a connector in the end. That's all I can suggest...

Also, make sure that your horn contacts are there. I'm not exactly sure how airbag wheels work but on the non ones it grounds the horn. To test it out to make sure it's not the horns and is in the wheel you could find out which wire is the horn ground wire on the big switch inside the column, and run a jumper wire to ground.

If all else fails run a external horn button and wire it directly to your horn. At least you will pass the inspection. Local autoparts sells an external horn kit for about $8.00 to $12.00.
Just a thought!

i have a horn kit but i have no clue as to hook itup and the instructions just let u know how to wire it in to your system that allready exists
which brings up another question.....how do i get the steering wheel off?? i pulled the nut and the wheel wouldnt budge!! my guess is if i gave it a good yank it would pop off but i wasnt sure...
i need it off to run the new horn wires

You will need a special tool to remove the wheel and to reinstall it. You have to compress your lockplate and remove the clip on the shaft. You do not need to remove your wheel to hookup an external horn kit. You just have to run a wire from the new horn button in your kit and another wire to a +positive hot wire all the time. Then find a place to mount your button.
My advice is for you not to remove your steerring wheel Unless you know how it is done and you have all the correct tools. It can be very expensive if you screw it up and if you have an airbag whoosh!
Hope this helps you out.

Columns aren't too hard to work with if you get the right tools. To remove the wheel you would need a steering wheel puller which is about $20. When you remove an air bag wheel you should disconect the battery take out the fuse and disconnect the yellow air bag wire, it's a little overkill but better that then an air bag in your face. Also check the horn relay, it's possible that's bad. And the wire on the turn signal switch that is for grounding of the horn is black. So ground that wire and see if the horns work.

well the airbag aint a problem
the fuse is pulled and the wires are cut
so basically i just ground the horn and switch and run it off a 12volt power source
so its just like my fogs r set up then?

SUCCESS!!
horn button 3$ (autozone)
horn 20$ (pepboys)
inline fuse 2$ (o' reilys)
wire 7$ (o'reilys)
misc connectors 7$ (walmart)
mini fuses *free* i used a 15
all these prices dont include tax
i bought a horn button and mounted it above the headlight switch, had to drill two holes behind the switch to feed the wires off the button to
but i ran it off a 12v power source to the button
then from the button back to the horn
and the horn grounds on itself
after having to stop everyso often to run to the store to get the right parts it took about 2 hours with trips included
