88 Camaro alternator

Hi there,

Has anyone got a wiring diagram on how an alternator wires into an 88 Camaro 350TPI? I would search but it's not working at the moment...

Your best bet would be a Haynes, or possibly a Chillton's manual. At the rear of the manual are basic wiring diagrams.

Thanks for the idea, but I don't tend to trust those manuals because their accuracy isn't all that good. I was hoping for a scan out of a factory manual like Trickster posts from time to time.

true...

With no search enabled, you'd have to go my way, and compare diagrams. Patience is a virtue, as they say...

After I read back over your post I saw you needed 87. This one by the way is for an 88 VIN F or 8. It's worth a shot to see if the wiring matches up.

Last night the attachment showed up, but it's not today. I may need the 87 one after all because the diagram you posted shows 4 wires for the alternator and the 87 uses three wires. From memory the wires are tan/white, brown and, and, oh bugger I can't remember the last colour!

It says it is attached but does not show up, not sure what happened. I could e-mail it to you if you want.

Depending on what you are doing a good resource might be this site, http://www.alternatorparts.com/. They helped me get a 140A alternator for my car. Maybe if you describe what you are doing we can help better.

Awesome, thanks. But, I think I really do need the 87 diagram as the 88 doesn't have a tan/white wire in that diagram which the 87 definitely does have. Do you have that?

Unfortunately I do not have that but I know where you can buy one. Visit www.helminc.com the part number you need is ST36887 and is $75. Not a bad set of books to have around.

I assume yourr alternator looks like this:
http://www.wai-wetherill.com/products/partimage.cfm?wai_num=20-167-31-1
If so, your alternator is known as a Delco CS130. They are very common an late 1980s up to mid 1990s GM cars and light trucks.

A quick google search for CS130 wiring has come up with this website:
http://www.chevelles.com/techref/tecref14.html
On this website, under the heading "General information on "CS130" alternators;", lists which wire goes to which terminal on the alternator. BTW, there are two basic types of CS130 regulator, and this wiring diagram will work on your 88 Camaro.

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks for the links, but I made a wee mistake with the title of this thread and actually need the wiring for an 87 alternator. I looked at the links but the information contained there in didn't seem useful. The 87 alternator has 3 wires coming from it, two of them are brown and tan/white. I can't remember off the top of my head what the third colour is.

If anyone had one, a scan from a factory manual of the alternator wiring and what it connects to on the firewall C100 connector would be appreciated.
