Problem wiring starter
Hey guys i recently installed a Carb V8 into a Fuel injected V6 camaro, im at the point where i just need to wire the starter for it to turn. The problem I have come across was the original wiring was cut up really bad, I have found the wires to my ignition, alternator, and distributor, I wired those up to the switch lead on my starter. I also wired the Battery to the battery lead on my starter, when i try to turn my car over i get nothing no clicking or sound of anykind not even dash lights. I can jump the leads together and my car will try to turn when i do that i have lights and my starter/silinoid starts working. So i was wondering if there was anything anyone could think of that i could do in order to make it start properly without jumping the starter.

You really need to get ahold of a wiring diagram for the vehicle your working on..just guessing ..but you have fuseable links down at the starter that need power.Fuseable links are wires that have a soft insulation and if the wire gets hot the insulation breaks the connection ,just like a fuse would.Theres usually 2-3 of these connected to the positive battery wire at the starter, but you really need a diagram.

What year is the car? If it is a 88 or newer bird or 89 or newer camaro you will need to bypass the starter disable relay in the drivers kick panel. Mike

That car will have a starter disable relay in the drivers kick panel. Do you still have the VATS system hooked up with a small pellet in the key. If not you will need to bypass the relay. It is as simple as grounding one of the wires. I will check and see what color the wire is today. Mike

need help with my 92 camaro 25th something in sterring column went bad key was hard to turn so i pulled out the key ign thought that it was the problem but the sterring column insides was bad so i bought a steering column from the same year car put it in and bought a reagular key ign put it in car would not start the car it self had power but starter would not turn then i found out it has a starter enable relay vats or something, but heres the other part i pulled my starter of to get it tested and for some reason there is a kinda teal green wire down by starter besides ign wire and the main battery wire ,and three fuse links dont know where it goes but before my sterring column went the car was a dream perfect car no its a nightmare still wont start need to bypass key code
