Do I still need my computer?

I'm wondering if I can remove my computer and its wiring. I'm all carb and the fuel pump has its own circuit. I can't think of anything thats using the computer, just want to make sure.

If I remove the computer, can I get rid of the large wiring from the pass fender to the Y at the motor? Heater is gone too.

I'm just not sure what I need power for, and what I don't.

Also, does anyone know what that module is behind the front bumper? Car never had airbags....

I know the light harness is on the driver side, need to keep that...

Re: Do I still need my computer?

Stock speedo, stock voltmeter. The car was tbi, so as I understand it, I have a buffer box which sends a signal right to the speedo, so I may not need the ecm for it?

Re: Do I still need my computer?

it was tbi, removed the tbi and made it carb a few years ago, but left evrything in place. it wasnt until recently that i redid the wiring harness to remove all unnecessary wires. left all the ones to the comp though. havent gone anywhere yet, but as soon as i do, ill let you know

Re: Do I still need my computer?

Are you using the stock fuel pump wiring? The stock setup uses an oil pressure switch that will turn off the fuel pump if pressure gets low. I'm not sure if it goes through the comp or not.

Us TBI guys may not need our comps for the speedo.

Re: Do I still need my computer?

went out today, comp disconnected and all the gauges worked fine. speedo, fuel, oil pressure, all worked.
i have my fuel pump hot wired before i start it up to prime it, after it starts i disconnect it and the fuel pressure stays on. the stock oil pressure sending unit is in place. i think i might have to get in there and remove the rest of the wires going to the comp. if i only knew what the are used for.

Re: Do I still need my computer?

I junked all mine a long time ago just put in a tri pod on the a pilar with the oil water and volt autometer gauges but the stock ones still work too, if your running an electric fuel pump just put it on its own circut, the only diff is I ran my speedo off a cable striaght to the trans so I dont know if youll run into any problems there

Re: Do I still need my computer?

Cool, next time I drive my car I'll disconnect it. It'll be alive again this week.

Instead of hotwiring it, I would think you could just connect the power wire and pressure switch.

Yea, if I get rid of that computer, theres a good weight in wire I can get rid of.
