Wiring in a start button...

OK here goes. So I would like to wire in a push start button. The way I'd like to do this is so that you have to have the keys in the ignition, in the ignition position (for security reasons) but then you use the push start to crank. Does anyone know what wire in the existing ignition switch that I need to tap into? I Have an '84 sport coupe if that helps. Thanks!

just cut in the purple wire in this schematic. the key would still have to be inserted and turned on.

Wouldn't work as he wants, would still have to turn the key to start position AND push starter button at same time
for engine to crank over

Need to jumper from the RUN terminal to the START terminal ( yellow wire ) at Ign Switch 1st,
then install a push button on wiring to starter
That way power is always available to the push button when Ign turned on and push button is dead when Ign turned off

has the wiring diagram you need. It shows how I wired my starter button in. You have to have the key in the ignition and turned to RUN in order to start the car. I will eventually eliminate the key itself, just haven't quite decided how I want to do that yet.

Re: Wiring in a start button...

On a 84 he needs to jump the starter wire at the Ign switch as shown below.

Push button can then be installed anywhere down stream before starter;
on either the purple or yellow wires

Don't worry, I'll be posting up a build thread showing what I did and how I did it. It's way down on the list of mods though, so it will be a while till I get around to it.
