Car: 1991 firebird
Engine: 3.1 l v6 mpi
Transmission: auto
fuel pump

okay so i bought a 91 bird 3.1l v6 the fuel pumps runs great till u turn on the lights or air conditioner the pump is hot wired their is a grey wire crimped to a wire run into fuse box but i have a grey wire that isnt connected to anything and i also have a red i one believe they are all related any ideas guys?????

the grey wire is the power wire that runs from the main bulkhead connector under the carpet all the way back to the fuel pump. my guess is that car has a fuel pump relay issue and the PO hotwired the pump instead of fixing it.

ok if i test it what should be the volts/ amp comeing out of it

the fuel pump relay should have a 12v constant on the orange wire and a 12v on the grey wire when the ecm triggers the relay.

the red wire is a test circuit to prime the pump. but if the pumps power wire (gray) isnt connected to the circuit, its not gonna do anything.

ok..... the grey wire is putting out about 11 volts should i just reattach it to the other grey wire????

some people do crazy things to these cars for reasons noone will ever understand. if it works go with it, if it doesnt then we can help you fix whats wrong instead of just rigging it to run.
