Wiper motor wiring nightmare
Just curious if anyone is able to give some advice on how to rewire the windshield wipers on my 1991 camaro. Here is the situation I've got myself into, all the wiring in my car is out of a 2001 camaro. Everything else went pretty smooth until now. The harness for the 2001 has 5 wires ( yellow, purple, black, green and grey. The wiper motor from my 1991 has the same 5 wires plus a pink, a red and a blue wire. Any help would be soooo apreciated as I'm lost. Oh and I didn't just put a 2001 harness in the car for no reason, haha. I swapped in the ls1 and 4l60e along with the fuel tank, rear end, dash, steering column, complete hvac system and most everything else I could figure out how to bolt in the car. Thanks

I certainly apreciate the help, I don't do wiring at all. Thats not because I don't want to but because i really suck at it, haha. I will try to figure out what I can with the schematics you gave me. I'm sure i will have more questions, I was hoping someone might happen to know what color wire hooked to the other color wire. I'm at the point now if they work at all I will be happy. Thanks again

Re: Wiper motor wiring nightmare
Well so far all I've figured out are that the red and blue wires are for the washer pump on both cars, anyone else done this type of swap and how did you get it to work correctly. Thanks

Re: Wiper motor wiring nightmare
I did this on my 82 Camaro. I installed a motor from a 86 which had an extra wire, and all different colors. Best advice I can give you is to set the switch to a setting, figure out which wire it is on the harness (test light), then test it on every wire for the motor. It'll take awhile, but is about the only way you'll do it. Just touch/twist the wires together until you get everything working right. What I did was focus on the low and high settings first just to get them out of the way. The motor should ground to the body through 1 of the mounting bolts. Took me a good week to get all the bugs out of mine!

Re: Wiper motor wiring nightmare
I would just do the wiring off the car... but you confuse me if you have your 91 steering column and 91 whipper motor then everything should just pretty much be plug and play you might need to cut and reconnect wires but as long as you have the pigtails and connecters then i don't see why you cant...
This is the one i did... its pretty easy...
all of the pin outs are marked (A,B,C,D etc) just have to connect the dots

Re: Wiper motor wiring nightmare
FueledSoul do you have the wiring diagram for that wiper motor. I want to put one in my LSX swap camaro as the PCV hits my wiper motor thats the one with the internal pump. The washer pump hits so I cant use it and I want to swap it for the one you did. I have a 4th gen washer bottle so all I would have to do after is wire the pump from it.

Re: Wiper motor wiring nightmare
Why do you need a wiper motor with the pump attached if your going to be using a 4thgen washer bottle?

I need the wiring diagram so I can change the connector for the older in motor style to the newer external washer fluid pump wiper motor as I have both sets of connectors. Just have to make sure I put the new connector on right is all

Know where I can get one as everyone of them I found was way too small to make out or too distorted when I enlarged them

The wiring diagram for a wiper motor with a internal washer pump. I was using a 85 camaro when I was looking up a diagram as my old 85 had that pump in it

Re: Wiper motor wiring nightmare
Sorry everyone I haven't been on the computer for a while and I haven't had any time to sit down and mess with the wiring yet. The car and the wiper motor are both 1991, the wiring harness, steering column, wiper bottle and washer pump are all 2001. When I did the ls1 and the 2001 dash swap I thought it would work better if I used the complete wiring harness from the 2001 (maybe not such a good idea lol). Everything has went smooth untill the wipers, I even went as far as seeing if I could use the 2001 wiper motor on my car but I don't see any way that it will work.

Re: Wiper motor wiring nightmare
It's the same for internal washer pump and external with the exception of the washer pump wires... Converted from internal pump to external on my 87 wiring harness swapping over the wiring from a 91. Spliced in the "new" connectors and away I went. The yellow wire runs in a loop from the 4-6 wire connector to the 2-wire at the base of the actual motor.

No, I haven't had the time to mess with it but that is exactly what mine does. I've got an appointment to put the car in the shop at the end of next week. Hopefully they can fix it, if they do I will post how they fixed it. Shop wants $100 just to look at it, so I hope they can get it. Good luck

Re: Wiper motor wiring nightmare
Cant be done the way the OP has it setup. If the wiper/washer switch is from a 2001 it will never drive the 1991 wiper motor. The internal switching of the 2001 wiper/washer switch is different. Even though the wire colors are the same it will not work.
In order for your wiper motor to work in this situation you must replace your 2001 wiper/washer switch with a 1991 wiper/washer switch. Then follow the wiring schematics for the 1991. To clarify I am not talking about switching the multi-function lever. The wiper/washer switch is the one that the multi-function lever slides into. You will have to take your column apart to swap the wiper/washer switch out.

Re: Wiper motor wiring nightmare
Awesome. Glad it worked out for you. You are correct about the angle of the switch. Depending on which route you go you may have to clearance your collar to allow for the turn signal up/down movement. Its only plastic so it can be modified easily. Get it right the first time because finding a replacement collar is not going to be fun. I think every year 3rd gen and 4th gen had a different collar depending on if it had airbag, vats, tilt, steering wheel style and the year it was made.
