Engine Light On
Need help!!
Owner of an '85 Transam 305, HO 4bbl Carb, Manual T. G engine'.
Following I have tried:
1. Key off, light is off.
2. Turn key on, light comes on, doesn't flick and stays on.
3. Car runs, it still stays on.
In my ALDL connector:
1. I have no lower pins. I have 5 upper pins and missing pin in upper side is 'E' pin.
2. When I short A and B and turn key on (not start) light stay on, no flash.
3. I pulled ECM out (1226865) of the wiring harness, light still stays on with key on.
4. With ECM out, AB is shorted, light still stays on.
Light always stays ON, and I am .
Where do I begin! any one! help please!
What is 'lamp driver module' and where is it/or how I check/replace it?
Car runs normal for its mileage.
Thanks.

Re: Engine Light On
Additional info:
Red fuse of 10amp is good & car runs without ECM. However I haven't checked gas mileage, and do not know if it is good or bad yet.
Should it run without ECM?

Re: Engine Light On
a ccc car will run with no ecm. the check engine light is controlled off of pin g of the ecm.
I do have a 1228079 that should work you may need to repin with acfz eprom. You can have it for the cost of the ride.

Re: Engine Light On
My ECM 1226865 doesn't support serial connectivity. Learning, is if car's ALDL connector doesn't have E or M pin, you can not connect a laptop to it regardless of cable type. I need a 'scanner tool' to read fault, or do it manually.
I am still having issue with ECL.

Re: Engine Light On
My car is 85 Transam, 305, G, HO, 4bbl Carb, 5 spd manual.
As for future reference (also thanks to Vader). The lamp driver module part # is 'Standard Motor Products RY-536'. GM part # is P12020004. It has many names beside 'lamp driver module'. Here are few names:
'Lamp driver module'
'Light driver module' at Napa.
'Remote Lamp driver module-Napa part #ECH GPL300 '
'Electronic Brake Control Relay- rockauto'
'ACDelco 216-51 Control Module Kit'
Exact same part different name. Price varies from $25 to $40
----------------
This part is on the passenger side. closer to weather control side and on upper area. In my car it was packed inside a light green 2" c 1.5" plastic like mini box. It is like if a pssenger sits and his/her left knee will be pointing to the spot. You have to take few stuff out and loose few cable to pull it out.
My car is 85 transam, 305 G HO, 4bbl Carb, 5 spd manual.
Anyhow I am still troubleshooting my ECL problem.

Re: Engine Light On
This thread has been a little bit of a life saver. That lamp driver is hard to identify and find. Thanks!
