88 iroc z tranny wiring
Just recently purchased my first iroc z, who ever did the wiring should be smacked, this harness has speaker wire spliced in it... I'm getting a whole new harness but for now I just want to get it fully functional, I drove it down the highway the other day and the tranny isn't acting right, no slipping or anything like that but in order to grab second gear the Rpm have to be significantly higher than any normal functioning transmission, then I accelerate to hit third and it doesn't shift up, it doesn't even try, I'm hoping it has to do with the wiring... I pulled the plug off the tranny on the drivers side and its a five wire plug but only 3 wires coming down, two wires from the plug are blue and are both spliced into a purple wire coming from engine bay, next wire from plug is tan and black and is spliced into tan and black also from engine bay, next is green and white wire coming from plug which is spliced into green wire from bay, the fifth and final wire from plug is white and is spliced into nothing, I'm hoping this is the reason it isn't shifting right and not hitting third, I need help figuring this stupid wiring out thanks in advance

Shifts in the 700R4 are not electronically controlled. The electrical connections control the torque converter clutch apply/release. I doubt this is the cause for your shifting issues.
But you can try eliminating the wiring as a cause of the problem by unplugging the electrical connector at the transmission and driving it to see if your issues go away. Don't drive it this way for too long. I have read that driving it without the torque converter lock-up can create a lot more heat when in 4th gear.
Also, make sure that the TV cable at the throttle body is correctly set:

BTW, are you still running the factory TPI? Swapped to a carb?
It might also help more knowledgeable members if we knew what transmission model you have. Yeah, it's 700R4 but based on the different wiring diagrams in the service manual, there are several different ways the electrical connector is wired.
Look at the transmission on the passenger side. Right above where the pan bolts to the case, at the rear there should be some alpha-numeric characters stamped into the case. This is the transmission ID.
It should look something like: 7YWM-Y-00597618-329B
Post back what your ID is.

Re: 88 iroc z tranny wiring
8676358 is all the numbers I could find on the tranny and it was on the drivers side right above the transmission pan, and also the number 16 in big numbers, I couldn't find anything on the passenger side besides the same big number16 it's on both sides of the tranny, and yes I have the factory 5.7 tpi, thank you and I was also thinking about the adjustment on the throttle but never did it before
