cluster removal-cant disconnect the speedo wire
Hi all (once again)
I have a iroc z 86 LG4 which I believe it has the electric wire to speedometer in the back of the cluster. I have not been able to it disconnect it to remove the cluster. Haynes manual says to stick my hand; cant reach it. I removed the lower dash plate as well. I don't even know where the wire is located in the cluster. I found in the service manual a picture only, not "how to remove it". any tricks or idea in how to accomplish this task?
I did a search here cant find anything?
Thanks in advanced!!

Re: cluster removal-cant disconnect the speedo wire
IIRC, an '86 IROC should still have a mechanical speedometer cable. You would see a thick cable going straight into the back of the cluster, the cable is also present in the engine compartment where it is bolted to hold it in place.
Although is about removing the cable, the link below explains how to detach the cable with a pic of the back of the cluster so you can see the tab that needs to be depressed.

Re: cluster removal-cant disconnect the speedo wire
Thanks, pic helped a lot. I am trying to change most of the bulbs in the cluster.
Questions:
1- If I disconnect the cable in the engine compartment, do I get enough slack to reach bulbs?
2- in regard to the pic, the black tab(around the silver cylinder) is the one that I need to depressed to remove the cable?
Thanks!!

1- You can always try. The flex circuit board is sometimes fragile so I would remove the cluster.
2- Yes. Make sure there is no tension on the cable when you depress it.
