instrument panel lights not working
Hi all, any help appreciated in advanced!
I removed my instrument panel to replace empty bulb sockets that I guess the previous owner removed. Before I replaced the bulbs, I grounded the socket to make sure they worked, and they did (with the key on). At the time the "shift" light also was working(manual trans). When I placed back the IP, the bulbs do not come on including the "shift" light. I grounded the socket, and they are getting current. I tried different bulbs and do not come on. The only light that do not work on the panel are the choke, service engine soon, and the shift, all 3 in the RH of the panel. All others work.
Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Remove the cluster again and trace the ground circuit that you used to apply ground and check to see if all those lights share the same ground circuit.
My guess is that the printed circuit has failed and the "common ground" circuit is bad.

Do you mean with "printed circuit" the map like wiring stuck to the IP?

Actually I found the printed circuit in the service manual.

Re: instrument panel lights not working
So, I must returned to the thread... I got the IP lights to work except service engine light which does not come on when with the key in "on" position. The light bulb socket does have power per my multimeter. Can it be something else? I read in a thread that there is "CEL" type relay or something along those lines in early version of these cars, and that the service engine light is not control by the computer but by this relay.

The Carbureted cars got something called a "Lamp Driver" that was used by the ECM to control the Check Engine light. It was mounted on the dash harness - not easy to access but it can be done,.... Here's a picture:
I might still have a few of these hanging around; if you need one - send me a PM for info !
