Wiper motor wire smoking?

Okay I got some great help on a couple sensors and their wires so now I'm back for some advice as to why or what could be causing my wiper motor wires to get hot when the ignition is turned to start the engine? With the ignition just on everything is fine, wiper motor runs but it's slow as slow gets but when you go to start the car the wires and connector for the wiper motor is getting hot and smoking the wires. I just swapped the 305 for a 350 in this car and haven't yet got the ground wires connected to the block and bell housing so could this be causing a feed back through the wiper wires or do I have a bigger issue?

By the way I'm working on an 89' Iroc Z28 now with a 350 Tpi and Hei distributor out of a corvette that Brian with tuned performance found for me if that's matters any.

I put a multimeter to the wire connector but didn't find anything abnormal with the reading so I'm here hoping someone has a place for me to check or an answer to what's causing this issue.

Thanks for your time and help in advance.
Clint

Definitely get those ground wires hooked up, they can cause all sorts of problems if they aren't. I wouldn't be surprised if it fixes the problem, although I'm not familiar enough with the wiper circuit to know if it'd be a direct cause.

Re: Wiper motor wire smoking?

I will for sure get them hooked up this week as I check and recheck everything else. I was just checking the starter and getting the torque converter bolts done so that was the reason I found this issue. Hoping it's a ground issue myself cause I hate chasing electrical issues. I had to wire in the distributor as well so I'm gonna have to check all that out and make sure I didn't wire the wrong connectors into that.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Wiper motor wire smoking?

Well I got the ground wires hooked up and I believe that cured the problem. Now I need to find the wire that connects to the sensor that's on the bottom of the plenum at the rear. I have the wire plugged into that sensor but can't find the connector that it hooks to. I've looked and looked on the main harness that runs around the back of the engine but no luck. Took a break from it for the day so maybe my mind will do a reset and remember where it was located. Grrrr!

Re: Wiper motor wire smoking?

So just hooking up those ground wires and your wiper motor now runs normally?

Re: Wiper motor wire smoking?

Well I didn't check the operation of them but when turning the engine over the wires don't smoke anymore. That in itself is a positive move forward. I will try them tomorrow and also search more for the connection for that wire that's under the plenum at the rear. Air charge sensor I think it's called?
