Firebird Pop Up Headlight / Motor / Switch Question...

So, what tells the motor to stop once light is open / closed?
Something in the switch or the motor?

I'm assuming it's not constantly trying to open / close the light, or it would burn up the motor...

I want to use other buttons & change location for headlight switch...

Thanks,

Rafael

For the two wire style it measures current to determine when to stop. So it just keeps going until it hits the stop, then the current spikes which is detected by the chip inside the control unit. This is why when the bushings wear out, it keeps spinning even if it's all the way at the top of the travel.

Is the headlight switch in the dash the "control unit"?

Nope, there's a box in the engine bay. It's attached to the firewall on the driver's side next to the fuel pump relay. Has two plugs, one with four and one with five or six terminals.

So I can use regular on /off switches (with relay).
Moving them to center console...

As long as you get the wiring right, I don't see why not. My service manual isn't around right now, so I can't double check against the wiring diagram. Do you plan on keeping the parking light function working, or always have the headlights come up when the parking lights are on?

Two switches, one for the parking lights and another for the headlights. I have the wiring figured out.

Should work then. There's no fancy electronics in the switch, just a set of contacts. In case you aren't aware, the headlights will not go down as long as the parking light circuit (brown wire?) is getting power, even if the headlight wire (yellow?) is no longer receiving power. Probably also have to be powering the brown wire whenever you're powering the headlights on wire. Going from memory here, but figured I'd mention it in case you didn't account for it yet.
