Alternator Wiring Help Needed - 12S to CS130
Hello All-
This is my first post so first of all, thanks to everybody for all the information on the forum! The short story is I removed a 12S and am installing a CS130. My problem is that there were three wires on the 12S- one to the battery, a brown wire to the idiot light, and a big red wire that ties into the starter and heater wiring. The CS130 came with a pigtail that has wires coming out of the F and L terminal. There is no S terminal wire. The brown wire will go to the L terminal wire, the F terminal wire would have went to the computer from the donor vehicle. I am not running the computer so I will terminate that wire. Now I have this big red wire that I think could go to the S terminal, but I don't have that provision on my pigtail. Would it be fine to just run it to the batt terminal on the alternator? Or should I just go find or order a new pigtail with the S terminal provision?

Re: Alternator Wiring Help Needed - 12S to CS130
Other information that may be helpful: The car is an 83 firebird (originally a crossfire). I'm working on installing a 350 from a 96 chevy 1500 that I've switched over to carburetor. The alternator (and the rest of the accessories) have been donated from a 1992 chevy caprice. This is my trans am that I'm patching together from other projects and junkyard upgrades.

Re: Alternator Wiring Help Needed - 12S to CS130
Do not apply full battery voltage to the L terminal as it will burn out the regulator. Search for 12si to cs130 wiring and you will get all the info you need. There are a few posts about this conversion here in the electronics section. HTH!

Thanks bigal55. I stopped by my local parts store and picked up the proper adapter and everything looks good. I'm slowly working towards cranking this engine for the first time.
