Newbie here. Great Board, but got a question.(long)
Hi,
I have been using your search function carefully ( as well as Google) and have not found the information I am looking for.
To start off with I have done a '96 LT1 swap with a 6 speed tranny completely by myself in a '91 S10 back in 2000 (when it was a fairly new thing to do) completely by myself (including wiringthe computer and both factory harnesses together). So I am not completey uknowledgeable, but I thought I would bounce a few questions off the experts.
Heres the project:
I have a 1966 MG Midget that I bought for the wife. I recently purchased a 1995 3.4 with 5 speed from a camaro with 53000 miles. It came complete with accesories, harness, and ecu.
I can't sem to find anyone who has done this swap in a Midget, so answers are hard to come by.
I will be rewiring the whole car from front to back (right now it is a positive ground system, crazy)
1) Will the VATS Bypass from Ebay for 25.00 work on these ecu?
2) If I delete theair pump hose to the exhaust manifold will that cause an adverse reaction to the computer somehow?
3)Besides the standard tuneup (and I did read the post on that) is there anything else I should really look at or replace before I shove this engine in the bay?
4) What is the PSI for the fuel pump?
5) Is the factory fan good enough for the engine and application, or should I look at an aftermarket fan? Any suggestions?
6) There is only a MAP sensor on the 3.4 right? No MAF sensor on the intake duct right?
These are the questions I have for now, but I will probably have some more in the future.
It seems so many people are going for the LT1 swap that there really isn't much information available for the 3.4 swappers like me. I know you are probabl thinkink that a 3.4 is a weak engine, but the original engine in the MG has a whopping 59 HP. Seems like 160 HP will be a great improvement in a 1100 LB car!
Thank you in advance for your replies. I hope to learn a lot and will post pics as soon as I can (Assuming you are pic ****** like the members on my other board for my '72 Chevy)
Thanks again,
Shawn

You may want to consult the 4th gen guys at www.camaroz28.com or www.ls1.com. Both have V6 sections. Since this is not going into a 3rd gen it will most likely get locked.

The VATS bypass should work with no problem, they arent likely to have two different signals for the pcm's not to mention i believe they both use a similar pcm.
Yes it only has a MAP.
Fuel pump use a high pressure efi one, the rail has a regulator and sets the pressure not the pump, the pump just has to be able to keep up.
The stock 4th gen fan of course its good enough, you dont see everyones 3.4's blowing up do you ? Unless you mean the MG's fan, which i doubt many around here know about those.

Since we aren't talking about a 3rd gen donor car or 3rd gen receptor car, I'm afraid we're going to have to turn off the lights on this one. Sorry, Board rules.
Say Goodnight, Gracie.
