Car: 1989 Firebird SSA
Engine: 2.8L V6
Transmission: The stock one...lol
Will a 305 from a '78 impala fit my '89 bird?
Will it? Dont really care about the smog legal stuff, Will i need to fabricate anything or will it be pretty much just a clean swap? Thanks for the help.

For the most part.. yes. You may need to change the oil pan though, and the dipstick location may cause problems, since it will be on the drivers side.

What about the trans? TH-350? Will it just slide right in? and what do you mean by the dipstick location being on the drivers side?

you might want to rethink the smog legallity. in CA, the seller is responsible for smogging a vehicle. if you ever think you might want to sell your car, it will be worthless.

Nah, im pretty sure on the smog thing...Anyway the shifter on the '78 impala is not on the floor is it? So does that mean it wont fit on mine?(mine being on the floor)

See https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=293412 for the motor mounts. You'll need both the engine side "clamshells" (most likely - not completely sure what a '78 Impala would have used), and the frame side (more easily available).
The transmission will work, you'll need some means of mounting the torque arm (kits are available from Jegs & Summit). As for a shifter, one from an early 3rd gen 3-speed auto would be the easiest, as it would bolt right to the TH350. An alternative would be an aftermarket shifter like the B&M, which would have all the brackets and the like that you'd need.
