personally, i would go with a 350..or take a 350 one step farther and get a 383. just depends on how deep your pockets are. better isn't neccesarilly better though.
350 and camaro go together like cheerleaders and big ***** as far as i am concerned.

There are a lot of options when choosing a 350. There are a ton of crate motors such as the 330hp 350ci HO, or the fastburn 383ci. Keep in mind that your stock drivetrain mak have problems handling the monster torque of some of these engines. When you get over 400ftlbs, you are looking for trouble with a stock tranny and rear end. For example, if you have a stock T5, 400ftlbs=breakage. Check out sdpc2000.com for a great list of regular and custom crate engines.

Some of us really old farts have numbers like "302", "327", "396" come to mind when we hear the name "Camaro". "Best", however, was never associated with "250" or "307".
The original question is really too vague, though. What you intend to do with the car is as important as knowing it's a Camaro.
Or, did you mean something like "power window" motor, or "hatch release" motor?
------------------
82 Berlinetta, orig V-6 car. Rescued w/86 LG4/TH700R with all harnesses, sensors, ECM, etc. 2.73 open. Cat-back from '91 GTA, Accel HEI SuperCoil. AMSOIL syn lubes bumper-to-bumper. Daily driver, work-in-progress (LB9 w/ZZ3 cam, exhaust, paint, etc.).
57 Bel Air, my 1st car. Currently 396 .030 over, Weiand Action+, Edelbrock 1901 Q-Jet, Jacobs Omnipack, 1-3/4" headers, TH400 w/TCI Sat Night Special conv & shift kit, 3.08 10-bolt, AMSOIL syn lubes bumper-to-bumper. Best 15.1 @ 5800' Bandimere. Daily driver while Camaro was being put together.

Re: what is the best motor for a camaro
Times change. What was "best" 16 years ago, might not be "best" TODAY.
If I was searching for a cheeeeeeeep plentiful eeeeeezy effective swap IN 2016 that's as close as possible to a drop-in, I'd go for a 5.3/4L60E out of a truck. Wouldn't have said that in 2000 when this thread was started.
Hint: set your forum preferences to "newest first". Then you won't resurrect a necro thread so much.
