454 Big block into a 86 Z28?

I was wondering what you all tought about me swapping a 454BBC in place of the 305. Would any of you consider this. I live in El Paso TX and was wondering if I could get away with this set up as far as emmissions go. I am obsessed with Big blocks. My obssession comes from the fact that this motors are so powerful if built right. The torque is awesome! Please post your toughts before I actaully swap in the Big Block. I would greatly appreciate your views. The result from the motor swap that I am expecting 12's in 1/4 mile.

There are at least two BBC powered cars, with four more in the construction phase, and 1 406 pontiac on this board. I think we all agree that it's a good idea. I am thinking about shoehorning my newly aquired spare 500 cad in my car, But I'm going for 11's. 12's shouldn't be any prob for a decent 454. Traction, now that's the problem

I'm in the middle of doing this right now. Check Miles' 88 427. I don't remember the address though. Look for old posts on big block swaps. His sight has alot of great info.

As for my car, I'm looking at a very traction limited mid 12's on street tires. I don't want to run slicks until I get something bigger than the 7.5. I guess as time and money allows.

Oh yeah I forgot about Stephen's car. He's doing a big block swap right now and his car is pretty damn awesome. His sight is a MUST see. Tons of info and great pics.

If you can't do 12's with a big block then something is wrong. I ran high 11's with my 383, TH350 and a BW 9 bolt with 3.27 gears.
My new BBC "should" put me in the low 11's with somewhere around 550hp. The only reason I didn't build it to put me in the 10's is that I don't have a 9" diff yet and I expect to break my beefed up 10 bolt sometimes this year. One I get a 9" under the car I can always do a cam swap to get me in the 10's later.

As stated above, dropping in the BBC engine alone isn't a good idea. You'll need to work on chassis and suspension to handle all the extra power.

As for emmission, if the engine is built properly it should pass a smog test. Lots of BBC trucks still driving around that can pass. I drive my 454SS daily but don't have to get emmission tested.

I have decided to go with the BBC! Hopefully I won't run into to much trouble fitting the engine. I am going with an after market fuel injection system(Edelbrock)through Summit. It's kind of pricey at 1,900.00 so if anyone has some better suggestions please let me know. The only thing is it will be fuel injection and not carburation. thanks in advance.
