How can i tell if its a 350 or a 305?
I want to try to buy an old chevrolet pickup to take the 350 out and rebuild it so i can go in my camaro. The thing is that i need to be able to tell the ever so popular 305 from the ever so popular 350. Thanks for the help.

You might just want to call a junk yard and get a builder 350. alot cheaper than buying a whole truck. as far as telling them apart, they are stamped at the back of the block where they bolt to the tranny. I would say 50% of the engines you look at will say 5.0 or 5.7. the other 50% will just have casting numbers. example "0000865432" <--- not a real number. You can also tell by pulling the pan and checking how many bolts are the mains held with 2=car 4=truck. but some trucks did have cheap 2 bolt blocks. You will never find a 4 bolt 305 so if it has 4 its a 350. hope this is somewhat helpfull. SSC
