1985 305 Auto into a 1987 Shell - Things to look out for
Hello All,
Brand new to the forums, found quite a links to here while searching in Google.
I have a 1985 Camaro (nothings special) with a 305 in it, body is garbage.
I also have a 1987 Camaro Z28 (T-Tops) which had a standard engine in it, that was removed by the previous owners. Body is mint and I'm looking to put the 305 auto from my '85 into the '87 which previously had a standard in it.
The previous owners only took the engine and trans, everything else was left (rear end, driveshaft, all hookups) and I have my '85's 305 auto and transmission out and want to put it into the 87.
Any suggestions on what to look out for, and what i'll need to change/modify in order to make it work?
i.e. Can I use the standard key module (with the lock) on the auto engine
Note: Both the previous engine and the one going to be put into the '87 are 305ci V8 (LB9)
Thank you very much!

Well if u keep the engine harness that's in the 87 shell, I believe interior harness u should have a shifter park/neutral switch harness tucked in somewheres, also ur gonna have to either get a converter clutch solenoid kit to activate the convertor lock feature in the tranny

I don't have the transmission from the 87, it's everything minus the engine + transmission. Both cars are floor shift, so I wont have to switch the column, I'll take a look for the shifter park/neutral switch, I didn't see anything earlier.
Can I still use the harness in the 87 (had standard in it), with the 85' engine (auto)?

You can find good info on the variances here... http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/ecm_swap/
No matter what you decide to do, it can be done. I replaced a 91 v6 with an 85 LB9 and used the v6 harness and 730 SD ECM (new memcal though). Lots of wiring diagram study, but possible.
