ZZ4 TPI Swap Need Help

I currently have a 87 GTA with a 305 TPI in it. I have a ZZ4 GM crate motor that im looking to setup for fuel injection and swap motors.

Im looking at summit for getting a Weiand Stealth Ram EFI Intake for the ZZ4 but im a little confused on the fuel rail setup that they are suggesting. I looks like a fuel rail setup for a carburated car. Has anyone ever used this intake before and if so could you point a newb in the right direction before i spend a bunch of cash.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wnd-7540....This is the intake im looking at

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-534-186....This is the Fuel Rail they suggest.

I read a post on here from someone who did a ZZ4 swap into a TPI car and they suggested 24lb injectors. These are the ones im looking at.... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/acc-150824

Also going to go with a 58mm Throttle Body....http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pfs-69707

If anyone out there could look over this setup and tell me what they think I would sure appreciate it. Or if anyone out there has done a ZZ4 TPI swap I would love to hear from you!!

Re: ZZ4 TPI Swap Need Help

Wow thanks for the great pictures....I was confused on the fuel rail but now seeing it in your photos i get the picture (no pun intended) lol

I see you used your stock throttle cable on the side as well. That answers another question I had.

Can you think of any other items I might need for this swap? or any advise with the stealth ram?

Read the HSR link I posted for you above ; all questions answered there

And FWIW , you don't need a 58mm TB

Re: ZZ4 TPI Swap Need Help

Why do you say you dont need the TB? everyone i've talked to mentioned getting one right away.

Re: ZZ4 TPI Swap Need Help

Read in the forums its a waste of money. When you are bored and want to just spend money buy a bigger TB and an airfoil.

Re: ZZ4 TPI Swap Need Help

You will love the ZZ4 combo. I ran a partial one for years (1990-2004) in that I had the cam, shorty headers and dual cats in a stock 350 89 iroc along with a 160 stat and a chip and the car would fly. If I had the better aluminum heads and a HSR the car would have actually wound up past 4600RPM. The 2.77 gears really worked in that combo.

Re: ZZ4 TPI Swap Need Help

Well like TORN mentioned ^^ i got in contact with another guy who has done this swap and they said the TB is a waste of money too. Told me to reuse the stock TB, said that the HSR will be such an improvement that "upgrading" the TB wont be able to tell a difference.

Re: ZZ4 TPI Swap Need Help

I agree skip the throttle body. However, only certain year throttle bodies clear the throttle bracket on the side. I forget which years but I believe all aftermarket throttle bodies do clear it. I used a BBK 52mm, I feel no difference over the stock 48mm, but it did fit.

Re: ZZ4 TPI Swap Need Help

Thanks RyanJB ^ I will have to do some research on this fitment issue. The engine is sitting on a stand right now so i havnt had to deal with fitment problems. but its nice to know so if I go to install it and have a problem i can remember your post. I had a friend give me a 89 Iroc 350 TB that i cleaned up and painted and put all new gaskets in already lol

Re: ZZ4 TPI Swap Need Help

well guys im going to do the same thing in my Firebird, i have a ZZ3 which is basically a ZZ4 a few internal differences in material of rods, valve springs and piston(small bump compression from 9.8 to 10) most notably. i do want a HSR because i know after 4,500 RPM my stock TPI will start holding it back and the HSR should take enough torque out of it that i dont destroy my transmission and rear end fast (of course that might still happen IDK). Does anyone make a good chip for the ZZ3/ZZ4? and if i go HSR i might think about a LT4 hot cam or Comp cams in the same range i dont know yet.
