305 to 355 swap is finally going to happen!

Looks like the final pieces of the puzzle are coming together and it should be competed by next week.

What started out as a mild 350 rebuild of a L98 with 083 heads has morphed itself into a -

355 with 062 Vortec heads ported to flow 230,
hotter cam 226/234 112,
9.7 to 1 compression,
self aligning roller rockers,
1-3/4 dyno don headers,
serpentine system (smog delete),
CCC Qjet rebuilt with these specs in mind.
Edlebrock Performer RPM

So I walk into the engine shop where the work is being done and I ask the million dollar question.....

"What kind of power are we talking here?"

After some number crunching, I hear "oh about 400"

I said "at the crank"

They said "yep"

I said "Holy S&$)!!"

Well after some failed attempts to actually swap the motor, all I need to do is undo the bellhousing bolts then this L69 is outta here...

then.......

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression the only Vortec spreadbore available was the standard Performer, not Performer RPM (there is a non-Vortec Performer RPM spreadbore available).

Decided to pull the A/C. Going to put the chrome valve covers on too.

The CCC qjet actually runs well. Still needs a TPS adjustment after I get the timing set though. It's a rough idle but the motor doesn't die at idle //700-800 rpm

Where did you get that air cleaner setup? And I like the swap. I'm doing the same just need to figure out what I need yet other than the engine!

Re: 305 to 355 swap is finally going to happen!

I found it on eBay
The air cleaner came from a 1984 Z28, so I just used my original al L69 air cleaner cover instead.

I really like the way it turned out !! Especially with the chrome covers and Pontiac blue paint on the block, kind of the old school Pontiac look I was shooting for

I will say this.... I needed to remove the a/c compressor to fit the passenger side intake, since I am using a serpentine belt system.... Oh well... I've got t tops anyway

Re: 305 to 355 swap is finally going to happen!

i have unported vortecs on the 355 in my Camaro with the same intake as you- but with an Edelbrock 1910 850cfm quadrajet- with a .488/.510 lift cam and long tube headers.. i was out playing with my trusty old G Tech meter last weekend, and it said i was going 105 in the 1/4 mile with a bad bog off the line and a 700r4 that doesn't shift consistently.
