Re: is this price right for this engine

From an engine builder's point of view... It's cheap off shore parts, bottom of the barrel type build and I do NOT think it will hit the advertised HP.

Any time you see an engine package for sale, and they do not list part brands it's because they are using the cheapest crap they can get their hands on.

I do not expect that engine to last very long really.

Re: is this price right for this engine

500+ HP from an N/A 383 or smaller engine is not easy, cheap or very streetable. Your goal is not unrealistic but your not going to get there cheap, and it's gonna be a pain on the streets.

Your looking at 10.25:1 compression or so, 240's/250's @.050 cam or better, good flowing heads like brodix IK200, dart pro 1's, AFR 195's, etc. Then of course other parts to handle the stress and strain, $500-600 forged pistons, scat stroker clearanced forged rods, scat crank, good $300-400 full roller rockers. It adds up fast.

With out putting anything on paper, I would guess $6000 in parts and machining work to get the power you want, plus labor to build it.

I'm a little pressed for time right now, but I will look through the crate engine offerings later and see what I can come up with for you.

Also keep in mind you goal power will destroy your transmission, rear end, U joints, driveshaft, twist the body of car, etc.. So all of that must be addressed as well.

I'm at the power level you want, and not very much on my car is still stock lol. SFC, roll cage, all aftermarket rear suspension, th-400 trans, 9.5" 3500 stall converter, moser ford 9" rear end, dual 3" exhaust, etc etc.

Re: is this price right for this engine

If you can afford that engine, you can afford a LS2. Add a cam and itll hit your power goal and be street friendly with a lifetime of about 200k miles

I wanted an lsx originally But what would it cost to pay somebody to do an lsx conversion that's the part I'm afraid of on an lsx conversion I don't have the tools or a garage to do a swap in so I would have to pay somebody to do it

Re: is this price right for this engine

I don't know your living arrangement but do not let 'not having a garage' stop you. For 10 years I built my cars outside in the yard, and engines in my living room lol.

I had a 3 bedroom room house on 1 ac. of land but no shop/garage. I kept 1 bedroom as my tool room, the front porch was my "work bench", floor jacks, jack stands, etc stayed under the front porch, engine hoist next to a tree.

I built 4 cars for my self this away and worked on hundreds of others for people.

Lack of tools is a reason, but the price to buy the needed tools is much less than labor to do a swap. Do need to buy snap on or other high dollar tools.

Basically any part needed for the conversion is an off the shelf part anymore

Mount kits will get it in there, lots of choices
Exhaust kits from just headers to complete front to tail kits
Wiring is covered, myself and other places can build anything you want
Mail order tuning, local dyno tuning...
Off the shelf fuel line kits
Etc

This type of conversion is so common that the difficulty and DIY work is all but removed

Re: is this price right for this engine

For 7000, I'd build a 400 or 427. 7K is half way to a LS7 new from the factory.
