383 build has started...suggestions to improve?
I just got my new Summit SUM-150100-30 block.
Eagle rotating assy has been ordered (p/n b13454l03053)..hyperutectic pistons, forged 5140 I beam rods.
AFR 195cc heads have been ordered (p/n 1041)
heads and rotating assy should be here by Friday.
I need to order the cam, rockers, and decide what to do on the intake.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Car is a 91 Z28. auto. 2.73 rear. Used mainly for road trips and weekend fun, but plan to run it at the drag strip and take to VIR road course. I'm not trying to build the fastest car out there, just a reliable fun street machine. Would love to dip into the 12's......
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am looking at either a ZZ9 cam or Comp XFI 280. also planning for comp pro mag 1.6 roller rockers. Anybody have any input or suggestions on the cam and rocker choice?
Also, I know this will get bashed, but I plan to use the stock 'appearing' TPI set up. Am I better to buy an aftermarket base and runners or port/polish/extrude hone what I have?
I have done a lot of reading and these are the few questions I could use some direction on. (also, I plan to run headers)

I have a ZZ409 and I love it. Nice idle and good vacuum. I have same set up except dart pro 1 heads. 200cc. I have a rpm air gap and a 750 cfm dp holly. Rips!! I think you will be happy with the zz9. Have you called tpis and asked them what they would use? The guys there are jedis. Good luck! great start!
(edit) If you would be interested, a friend has a mini ram and may sell it.....let me know....

The stock TPI system even ported is gonna choke this other wise very strong build so bad. You now have 33 cube inch bigger engine plus very strong flowing heads look for an aftermarket unit that can keep up with the flow of your heads.

I agree I could do better with a HSR, mini ram, first intake, etc.... but I am shooting for 400+ hp and 12's in the 1/4. is this enough to get me there?

I'm no expert on the TPI setup or the aftermarket replacements however the southern California guys have several threads on how they're making big horsepower with modified TPI's. Smog legal too.

yes, they all get in the 12's, but I haven't seen anybody with these mods and 2.73's. I suppose I'll just have to try it and see where I get with them.

This may interest you. These California guys work the TPI to the limits and put down some impressive numbers.
