Trying to finish the 350 ID process

My son is in the Marines and left me a project to keep me from getting bored. We pulled an engine out of the You pick JY. It is going to replace the 305 in his 84 Trans AM. More details (and a whole lot of questions) on the build later. But for now I'm trying to be sure I know what we have. The engine appears to be a crate motor. We believe the long block was put into the vehicle shortly before it wound up in the wrecking yard. It appears (prior to detailed inspection) that it is a low mileage situation.

The block is 10243880 this should be a 2 bolt Vortec truck motor with a roller cam.

The heads are 12558063 which indicate a L31 Vortec truck with 64cc 1.94 intake and 1.5 exhaust valves.

Now the mystery part, on the front of the engine on the pad where numbers get stamped just in front of the cylinder head are the following numbers.

1M0226
9G01

I have no clue what these mean and have been unable to find any reference that supplies relevant info.

I'm hoping that the collective wisdom of the board will provide some insight. Thanks in advance.

Re: Trying to finish the 350 ID process

You already have all you really need. The 2-bolt suggests half-ton, which suggests greater risk of cracks in the exhaust seats. Vortecs are known for cracking between the center 2 chambers anyway. So pull the heads and check them. If they're good, reinstall them with a new pair of FelPro steelshims and enjoy. Plus by pulling them you can check for ring ridges, cracks in the lifter valley, etc
