I have a 1988 gta 305 sbc....

I have a opp to get a crank and block in good shape and I want to build it over winter and put it in my 1988 gta 305 tpi


I just had my heads rebuilt is it possible to use them on the 400 sbc so I can keep all the tpi???


what head gasket would I use


or can I just get used 400 sbc heads and bolt my tpi to it???????

You might be able to use your 305 heads; that would depend to a great extent on EXACTLY what the 400 is. If it has the usual "rebuilder" type of "stock replacement" pistons, it would probably work. If OTOH it has decent ones, the compression will be WAY too high for pump gas.

305 heads have teeny tiny valves, which are a restriction even for a 305. They'll totally strangle a 400. Although, with TPI on it, that'll be so much of a performance killer that the valves might not matter all that much... they might not be "the bottleneck".
