CAR SITTING FOR 4 YEARS AFTER ENGINE SWAP PROBLEM!

Ok hello thirdgen community I have posted threads here before trying to figure out problems with my 86 camaro z28 iroc-z, so ill post this thread I started 4 years ago for help and because I have a hard time remembering exactly everything we did

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...p-problem.html

so ill try to explain where we are at so after we swapped the engine we had a computer in the car that was out of an 86 vette, well the car started for a couple minutes, then died after that we could not start it after that, we concluded that it stopped because of the VATS system that is programmed into the computer for the corvette that was in my Camaro so after testing everything Injectors are good but no pulse and we tested with a noid light got nothing. We replaced the distributor an bought a factory computer for the 86 Camaro had a mechanic run tests on it and said he could communicate with it so he said that it ws good. The mechanic At Code 3 in simi valley CA, explained to us that he could get the car started sometimes and communication with the computer wasn't constant. That's what he left us with he said one other thing, that when he grabbed the wires on the left side of the engine compartment and wiggled it that's when he could get the car started. So after years and years of thinking about my car in the driveway I'm trying to start work on it again so if anyone has any suggestions or questions let me know I need help from you guys!! I was 18 when we started the engine swap now I'm 22 and want to drive my baby again! So if you could review the old post and repost in this one it would be greatly appreciated even a phone call from you guys would be awesome thanks!

Really the problem started after the computer from the 86 vette was in my 86 Camaro and the VATS system kicked in at least we think

we also had a guy come over and short out a fuel injector and got it to pulse and he checked the grounds and confirmed with us that they were good, is it possible that I just need to replace the wiring harness?

Re: CAR SITTING FOR 4 YEARS AFTER ENGINE SWAP PROBLEM!

Sounds like the Harness is damaged due to heat on the passengers side.
If the mil lamp comes on sounds like it's a distributor reference that's missing.

also the car ran before the engine swap but is it possible the VATS shorted out something in the wiring harness even though my 86 Camaro didn't come with the VATS system?

Re: CAR SITTING FOR 4 YEARS AFTER ENGINE SWAP PROBLEM!

Welcome back, the corvette chip has vats enabled. You would need to install a hz modulator or have the chip reprogrammed.for testing you can use the 305 Memcal. Mil (malfunction indicator lamp) or ses. Hopefully your fuel is fresh or was stabilized.

Re: CAR SITTING FOR 4 YEARS AFTER ENGINE SWAP PROBLEM!

so at the last step we took we went back with the original chip in the car to see if it would start so the computer is the stock 86 Camaro computer as well as the chip, the mechanic thought it would be best to go with that for the time being
