Kidding... there's nearly 3" of clearance above the trackbar and roughly another inch above the tube. Though I don't really drive it alot, I've yet to hit anything to cause contact. I'm sure there's things out there to cause it to hit but, I'll probably have more to worry about than just exhaust if I hit something that causes more than 3" or suspension travel

No, I orginally had WS6 springs (which suck).
I went to Hotchkis 1" drop springs (more like 2"-2.5" in reality) which I absolutely detested (ride quality and usable drive height).
What I now have are stock RS springs (I just painted them yellow because I like the look of yellow springs for some odd reason... probably my old job). They are slightly lower than the WS6 spring but, nothing drastic.

Hey deadbird, how does the exhaust sound with both pipes sharing the same muffler? Do you still get the nice dual exhaust rumble, or does it muddy up a bit like the single in-dual out stock setup?

Even though the pipes share the same case, the muffler has a partition in it seperating the sides so it still has it's very distinct dual sound. I guess you could say it's similar to wille's setup except, mine is wrapped up in a single case instead of 2 visibly seperate mufflers.

Thanks Bruce. Gains ? I honestly couldn't tell you if there are any but, it was all for getting the sound that I wanted. I personally can't stand the sound of single exhaust.
As far as extra work, I have yet to ever buy a pre-made system so it really didn't seem to be much extra effort to me. It takes about 30min to 2 hrs to make a muffler (depending on complexity) and under $20 in materials. In total, even after changing the rear design, I'm still modestly under $200 total from headers to tips. Eventual straight polished tips will just tip the 200 mark though.
Just the sweet tone of dual exhaust makes it all worth it. So much so, I'll probably make a dual 2"-2¼" system for my camaro. It will be run like willie's though with the exception of mufflers in the cat location instead of in the rear.

for all you guys with nice duals... i h8 you... j/k the guy i bought mah car from did the true dual and well... eh did a bad job.... it is hooker supercomps of what size i dunno( bashed to hell tho from bottoming out, not me though.) to 3in piping( hammer bent im sure) no cats, to flowmaster mufflers of what series i dunno( i think they are 40s). its quiet up front and loud in the rear, especially when getting into it. im thinking of getting the whole thing redone ( becuz im dropping in a 403ci) with new hookers, new 3in piping, and no mufflers just resonator tips. i might put it out the rear or thru the sides( maybe going thru the body kit?)

on a side note how much difference is there between a h-pipe, x-pipe, or just no crossover. i have no crossover right now

I put a h pipe in after about 6 months and it smoothed out the tone of the pipes..maybe even quieted it some

Man Deadbird's and Willie's setup look great. IMHO, a good "true dual" setup needs to tuck up into the undersection of a car (like a factory job) so as you cannot see it from the outside, pipes hanging down under the car look awful. $.02...

Agreed to an extent.
It's not a matter of being 'busy', it's more or less space and being able to hold clearances tightly.
Modding my trans x-member wasn't difficult and the piping wasn't tough either (did it in spare time). what was is keeping the the clearanceses on the drivers side.
If you don't have the skill or patience to run exhaust (yourself) like mine is setup.. forget it... unless you plan on running bullets/resonators & dumps).
Willie's on the other hand.. requiers great skill as well but not the trans x mod mine did. His also uses more piping adding to the cost.
Having duals done by by someone other than yourself is truely not worth the cost (and most sh-thole shops can't mandrel bent tubing) unless cost is not concern. In the case of willie's car.. it keeps to the craftsmanship of the rest of his car.
Mine.. I wanted the sound, I could make it cheaper than buying a single system and, I just like doing stuff like that.

greeze monkey youve sold me. that setup is amazing. Just what i was looking for. Ill be using shortys but same idea.

How did you do the H/X (?) pipe. Does that work effectively how you have it set up going across like that?

Also what mufflers are you using? have you ever considered getting them polished like your tips? It looks a lot like the new mustang duals

Yea I had shorties too, the pipes just ran in the tunnel along side the trans and then came together.

That crossover or "H" pipe if you will was installed after the system was completed, the sound thru the flowmasters without the "H" was raspy and had a terrible drown, the "H" quieted it down and mellowed out the tone and eliminated the drown. The mufflers are regular 40 series flomaster and the tips are 3 inch pipe cut at an angle and chrome plated, the system including the mufflers has an aluminum high temp coating that required heat to cure, it`s 3 yrs old and I just took most of the pictures last week.

how much would a set up like that cost a person?? heh i already got the flowmaster 40s but last night while i was driving the exhaust hanger broke and the entire passenger side piping hit the floor( the exhaust was done by the guy i bought the car from and he did a bad job)

i guess its a good thing that i keep random things in mah car.( the driver side pipe is held on by a wire hanger and teh passenger side is held on by 14awg speaker wire)

another.and it has never rubbed the ground.i run southside liftbars,so the extra crossmember you see is where the front of them mount.so with no torque arm i have more room than most people do.

are you guys using super 40 mufflers or just the old 40 series. The super 40s have a black casing and are only 5X10" but i havent found them for less than $75. (summit has em for $80 plus $5 in summit bucks). I might be using those on my dual setup. Im interested to know how anyone else whos had em if they like the flow and noise they give. Is the super 40 louder?

Greezemonkey are you running cats anywhere on your setup? I figured youve got a strip machine but on mine ill just throw em on after the header collectors and hope for good clearance.

Saigon bob my total for my 3" dual setup is $680-700 including 2460 headers coated plus 2 cats. Thats really not bad considering slp or 2055s cost around $550-600 with a y-pipe and then another $300 for a catalyst and catback. Of course those are only DIY costs. I guess i should figure in the $100+ welding kit ill need.

heres a pic of the x-pipe im using. This will allow the dual 3" piping to stay close togethor as it follows down the center (or offcenter depending on if it goes a stock route - towards passenger side)

im pretty sure i have 40s... really loud when i get on it( they were on the car when i bought it). when i redo my system im gunna go side exit and super 40s. eventually new hooker supercomp fulls (Mine are kinda bashed) but headers are after new shocks and struts

greezemonkey: Looks like we have the same issue with the mounting of the mufflers... I'm gonna break out the plasma cutter and cut out the spare tire pan and try to move the muffler over to the side more.. i'll probably just sheet metal over the hole and weld it in...

Looks like a slightly familiar setup

It would probably be less work (or maybe easier) to shorten the width of the trunk well to move the driver side muffler inward instead of trying to move the pass side outward.

just a thought...
