will flowmaster catback 17233 work with dual cats?

hey guys, I have a 92 Z28 with the dual cat N10 exhaust, will the flowmaster 17233 catback work?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/flo-17233

I definitely want that aggressive flowmaster American thunder sound, I just don't want to waste money on something that wont work. It doesn't list dual cats on a 92 on other website's for fitment, only 91 and below for some reason

I've searched and have found several threads on people selling a flowmaster exhaust, but not a definitive answer i'm looking for, thanks

No, the dual converter has a straight, loose fit connection instead of a ball flange. The 17233 could probably be cut to fit.

thanks for the reply, should I do away with the dual cats? i'd really like to use the 17233 system if possible, would it take away any horsepower? I plan on doing away with the smog bs anyways, it isn't necessary where I live (about the only good thing about living here in the sticks)

Depends what you have in mind. Without knowing 100% for certain that it would work, easiest solution would be to do some plumbing and modify your 17233 to fit on your existing setup. I wouldn't ditch or hack up the dual cats, there might a market for that setup in the future.

In general, even if you do not have smog testing, it's still a good idea to keep the cats. They are absolutely no performance restriction (unless they are damaged), and they clean up the exhaust stink a lot.

The other thing you could do is remove the Y pipe/cats and get a new Y pipe with single 3" converter (or straight test pipe). I have a feeling this isn't what you want to do since the point of this is that you want to use the mismatched 17233 that you already have.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't see that you are still shopping for cat back. I know for sure Walker Dynomax used to make the proper loose-fit I-pipe for the dual converter, because I bought one way back in 1992. Not sure if they still make it.

The dual cat setul did not change from year to year..............if you are seeing a part number for dual cats then it will fit.......
Nothing is different from an '88 dual cat to a '92 dual cat..............whatever PN flowmaster has for dual cats will work reguardless of model year.........

If you not worried about the smog BS then why not cut cat converter out all together? That is the 1st thing I do with every older car I get. Makes em sound and run smoother no doubt

Re: will flowmaster catback 17233 work with dual cats?

Well I found out a bit of information, incase someone else with the factory N10 dual cat's wants a "bolt on exhaust" from flowmaster

I called flowmaster and they "used" to sell a full kit with dual hi flow cats and all, it was part number 17228, but ufortunately, that is now discontinued

just my freakin luck. Magnaflow makes one though however, the catback is part number 16829, and the Y pipe with 2 hi flow cats is 23479....however the magnaflow set up for all of it runs nearly a grand

....now I just don't know wtf to do

just get a flowmaster y-pipe and install it after the dual cats into the 3in cat-back. simple enough. Dual cats is worth 10-15hp over the single 3in cat.
