Obsolete stock V6 muffler
1986 v6 65k original muffler with rusted out guts... Can't find anything close. This will be my wifes car so I'll be sticking with a quiet muffler. What have you guys done to replace this? I couldn't find a single picture of this style muffler.

Re: Obsolete stock V6 muffler
I thought the v6 mufflers had a single tail pipe. Anyway, I just slapped on the muffler from the v8 ('86 TA) parts car I have. I get twin tail pipes (one each side) and slightly better flow and sound. All the hangers are in the same place although I think I had to swap over one of the brackets because it was a different style. So you could probably use one from almost any other 3rd gen. Junk yard?

Walker has a muffler one in 2 1/4" inlet with two out on the same side 2" outlet. Try part number: 17879.

Re: Obsolete stock V6 muffler
Thanks for the input! After looking more at what was for sale through the local parts stores (easier to return) I found that the picture doesn't always match the specs when it came to the number of outlets. I found a single outlet muffler at one store and a tail pipe that fits, at a different store.

take that Walker part number to the local parts store and they will be pretty close to Summit on the pricing.. they should also be able to get you the stock tailpipes.

Re: Obsolete stock V6 muffler
Pep boys had a 30% off sale for online orders so I have the standard dual pipes and muffler on the way. Just have pick up at the store. Looks like it should bolt in with no additional hangers. The right side tail pipe is clamped to the muffler and floats in the breeze according to some piping diagrams.
