Issues with dougs long tubes
Anybody tried dougs headers on a third gen and had issues? I read lots of reviews before I bought them and all were good.
Went to install and they hit just about everything on the passenger side. And no way of installing my mini starter even. Any help is appreciated. 85 camaro sbc, 700r4. New motor mounts

New motor mounts is not my problem. They are factory replacement mounts. Original ones we're really bad. You didn't have any problems with your starter? I had to dent 2 of my primaries a little bit. Just to get them to somewhat seat straight on the head. Still isn't good. I don't believe there is any chance to get them to fit right without completely ruining the header.

That's Why I Stay Away From Headers,They Never Fit Right,You Always Have To Either Modify Them Or Anything In Their Way.

Re: Issues with dougs long tubes
I have the Doug's D3321 LTs and they seem to fit my 89 Camaro pretty well, though not perfect. I read all 9 pages of the Hooker 2210 thread and you can basically apply those lessons to our headers. (I read somewhere that Doug's design went with Doug to Hooker after his divorce and that's why they are so similar.)
Anyway, I am in the process of installing a new motor so I've put new stock motor mounts in, I have AFR heads so I've read that moves the headers slightly. In my first attempt to install the motor and headers I found the #2 (or maybe #4, I forget now) primary tube contacting the k-member. There was a nasty weld booger on the k-member so I pulled the motor back out and cleaned up that weld area, I have plenty of clearance now, but I've always had great clearance at the rear LCA bracket, though you'll read that plenty of people have the clearance issue at the LCA bracket. I am not able to remove either side from underneath the car, but since I'm taking the motor in and out, it was a lot easier for me to just do that, but I'll admit a lot of things are out of the engine compartment right now.
I had also read about people having problems getting the starter in and out, but I installed the headers on the engine stand and I can easily get the mini starter in and out without trouble. If you just have to clearance / grind a little on something, I wouldn't be worried, plenty of members have done it, but I would be cautious on how much you take off the LCA bracket, I've heard of guys having to take off 3/4" or more, that's too much IMO.

I have a set of Doug's Long Tube Headers on my '86 IROC and they fit like a glove, with out any clearance problems anywhere. I can easily remove and replace my mini starter with them bolted on.

Interesting. My drivers side fit awesome. But passenger side is a different story. I think they screwed up on the passenger side one. I'm back this weekend and I will make them fit

I didn't read the part about removing the knock sensor from the pass side, over to the driver side. I cut the material from the rear a-arm bolt, almost up to the bolt. ! day I was in a "hit and run". I was knocked in to a fire hydrant and the a-arm pushed the bolt THREW THE MOUNT.
I stacked up $1000 + parts and bribed my buddy after 4+ MONTHS of him ducking and dodging me to take my work order.
$1600, +$200 in discounted cab rides to my second job, walking 20+ miles back and worth to my day job, 2 weeks of having the car at his shop and him fighting it tooth & nail EVERY step of the way (all bolts locked up, frame bent, ect.) for 1.5 of those weeks on his lift, I have the car back.
My laptop is broke but when I buy a new 1 ill make a thread about it and post all the nasty pics.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Re: Issues with dougs long tubes
Finally had some time Friday and Saturday to finish the motor. Got the headers clearanced. And found out that you can clock the starter to gain clearance. So all is good. But I wouldnt recommend dougs headers
Video on YouTube of my car with new exhaust. Don't mind the paint or interior as the car is a work in progress
