Exhaust bolts for accessory brackets with headers

When I did my engine swap last May, it never occurred to me to use the bolts off the original exhaust manifold for the accessory brackets. I couldn't figure out how to make the spaces Dyno Don gave me with my headers work with the short header bolts that I bought, and since my grandpa wanted me out of his shop, I've gone without the brackets on my engine since then. After getting tired of the mild drive train vibration I've had since the swap, I'm ready to put the support brackets back on. Luckily, I still have the brackets, the bolts that go from the brackets to the accessories, and the two spacers Dyno Don gave me with my headers. The bad news is that I never took the original studs off my 305s exhaust manifold - they went to the scrap yard with my 305.

Short of going to junkyards and trying to find a Camaro to take the two studs off the manifold that I need, does anyone know the size and length of bolts I would need? I know I only need the front bolt on the driver side and the second bolt up from the firewall on the passenger side.

should be 3/8-16 thread. IDK what length? you could get a few at a junkyard, or cut some all-thread and use washers and nuts.

Just about any cars & trucks with 305 or 350 will have a selection of those studs.

Go to the boneyard and collect a handful off acoupla cars. Odds are, you'll get the right ones.

Sounds like I'll be hitting up a junkyard. Thanks guys.

Most parts stores around here carry a variety of the studs in the Dorman HELP! or whatever packages they're using these days... There's something to be said for not having to deal with Cletus the junk dealer, or wading through a swamped junkyard for some rusty bolts.

Re: Exhaust bolts for accessory brackets with headers

I did exactly what Drew said. Small pack of Dorman exh. studs and brass nuts. I used it for the support brackets when I did a serpentine swap.

Re: Exhaust bolts for accessory brackets with headers

Install for the brackets is planned for tomorrow. I found all of the hardware I need to install it. I'm not excited about the bracket on the passenger side since that was the exact bolt I was worried about (I had to grind down the flange on the bolt to get it to clear the header tube when I put it on). Hopefully the spacer will be thin enough it won't be an issue.

On a side note, I have 3 brackets laying around. Does anyone know what this bracket is for? I forgot what it came off of an I don't have any bolts laying around that fit through the holes.

Looks like the support bar from the front of the TPI manifold to the back of the alternator on later serpentine cars.

Thanks for the tip...I will look in my book for it. This is a serpentine car. I can't imagine which bolt it would connect onto though.

Edit: Looking through pictures of my old motor, I found it. It connects to the Intake manifold on the front passenger side and connects to the top of the A/C compressor on a stud.
