If you're doing a back half, frame measurements are whatever you want them to be. Since the diff already has ladder bars on them, the width of the ladder bars will the the center to center width of the frame rails.
There's a link in this fabrication section and on my web site of me doing a back half and 4-link on my car. I didn't use a kit but did use generic parts. The third gen frame kit is probably a better way to go if you don't have good fabrication skills.

Re: new rearend
The company I work for had a 37 Ford pickup truck made into a hot rod / drag truck. I did the back half on my car in my garage on jackstands and my car goes straight. The pickup truck was built in a professional shop and although it looks good, you can see really poor work. The 4-link brackets are not square, the rear wishbone axle locator is crooked plus lots of other bad mistakes. We're going to play with it for the rest of the year then cut the back half off and redo it properly over the winter. It's scary to see what comes out of some shops by people who are supposed to know what they are doing. I researched information for about a year before tackling mine and even then it took me a few weeks to get it done by myself still making and correcting mistakes along the way. If I was going to do it again, one thing I would do would be to put the front crossmember about 4" lower. I also didn't like the shape of the generic frame rails. Where they attached to the rear of the body, I would have liked them more inline with where the bumper attachments are.
