Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

can you be a little more specific... Do you mean like removing your headlight and running a tube through it?

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

iv'e never really liked that idea much, but if you like it, then more power to you.
personally, i would just fab up a contraption that worked similar to a stock TPI intake. cold air, and no loss in functionality

I have seen it a time or two on this site, its a neat concept, considering I never use my high beams, they're actually unplugged.

BTW, someone beat you to it. I think if the ducting would go square and fit in the headlight spot flush, it would be badass

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

what I'm talking about was actually a kit... but either way, I think you can make it look nice, perhaps using some material that is used to make a grille...

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

The hole that leads to the headlight looks too small. It might be a good idea to open it up a little to run a bigger pipe.

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

Pull the 2 inner headlights out completely (this includes the metal buckets the bulbs mount int. And run 2 ducts to those openings & cutting out everything in the radiator wall that gets in the way of them.

Very common on carb/TBI cars.

Ya when I saw this picture compared to the other ***** pictures, I realized it'll fit perfectly on a thirdgen with some kind of mesh covering it up and making the round tube either square or not visible. Im making a dual snorkel air cleaner and I may try to do this

Yes they did that to a Monte Carlo on Poweblock tv... You could probably look it up on their site. And yes Tuners do a lot of things... Like Suck for Instance..
I have seen it on Tuner cars and On Muscle Cars. It is how you go about doing it. I for Instance hate Tuners. They are the largest group of Dumb A$$es alive. No taste in good vehicles at all. But we have gotten a few things from these morons.. Like good examples of what not to do to nice cars!!!

Good Luck!

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

theres a difference between "beat" up and looking good. if you use duct tape and styrofoam thats beat up. if you do it right and make it "fit" hows it make it look beat up?

I think it's a great idea. But fab a rectangle "headlamp" replacement piece, and add mesh. It would look cool. Probably give you a few more ponies as well

Calling that supra or the evo r!ce is wrong. Both of those cars would likely walk all over most 3rd gens on here.

That sure is a bold claim, from such a New Member that nobody has heard of.

Let's see your "most custom 3rd gen on this site". Something tells me that it is FAR from the "most custom 3rd gen on this site".

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

what is 1 rapid 1? I would like to see it.
I don't dare mod anything where I live as pretty much anything fails inspection, my brother got so tired of getting pulled over for his hood scoop being too high he put the stock hood back on and then shortly after just got rid of the car because if he can't mod it than it's boring. I don't really mess with anything as I like it the way it is but as more and more new cars come out I'm getting my @$$ kicked everywhere I go from GT500 and the Chrysler Crossfire.

I actually agree with Stephen. That's a very bold statement. Seeing as we all work hard on our third gens. You can't say whos down the most, or whos done it the best. But why argue.
I'm sure your car is very customized, and probably looks great, but no need to be all cocky and brag man.

i have seen ALOT of customs done on this site, including my own and would never say mine is the best. everybody works hard on there rides , and enjoy the outcome. no need to bust peoples ***** saying "yours" or "theres" is more customized. who cares, as long as you like it is all that matters. back on subjects can you put a link to the rapid page on here for us to view the headlight mod?

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

IMO, if I had a Camaro and wanted to do what the OP wanted to do. I would take out the front turn signals and run a air duct(hose) to where the turn signals were. Then I would put some wire mesh over where the turn signals use to be. Then I would rewire the turn signals to where the outer headlights and rewire the inner headlight to work as regular and brights.

If this doesn't make sense, I'll draw a pic.

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

I understand that. So ditch the high beams and make them turn signals?
And route the CAI (ram air) where the turn signals used to be?

Ya, on a Camaro.

On a Trans Am, I would route air duct(hose) to where the stock fog lights are, but that opening might be small to some people.

That's my

It would work on either car. I think on a trans am i'd cut out part of the air dam and incorporate the ram air down there, just because there's more room.

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

Why not make a rectangular inlet and mount a small projector in the center. you would still have plenty of flow with 2 of them.

What about cutting the two vents on the front of your Trans Am hood and then make a air box?

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

Not enough clearance. The radiator cover is right there. I'd either do the fog light idea, or i'd just run a Ram Air II hood and run that functional Ram Air box that they make if you have TPI, or run your carbed idea and incorporate it into the two ram air parts. You'd see great cold air flow, and well, ram air is part of pontiacs legacy as well.

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

Yeah, I will write more up on this tonight. A guy on this board that drifts, Sketchy, gave me this idea originally. Got a single snorkel out of some 80's big block car in the junkyard, found another air cleaner with a snorkel and cut it off. Fabricated the air cleaner and welded the single snorkel to the air cleaner. Cut off all of the unneeded things attached to the cleaner. And bought some tubing at pepboys/autozone for like $20. All in all, it costed around $40 and turned out great. I will get more pictures tonight.

Re: headlight (high beam) ram air

Yeah, seemed a little peppier/not choked up as much. Better airflow and getting air completely from out side of the car away from the engine heat. And I've recieved dozens of questions and compliments.

Also I kept the headlight "funnel" there and just took out the lamp. It created a funnel into the 3" pipe I have going into the snorkel.

I will take a video/pics tonight so you guys can see all that I used for ideas and what not.

Ya bud that's very badass. I love it, great fab job as well. Looks better than the red camaro's, yours just has a cleaner and more symmetrical look!
Great job.

Thanks man, also we painted it with a flat black after everything was done obviously. And my dad did most of the work on it, I am just the idea man.

But It looks super clean. And noticeable gain can be felt.
