Can you post some photos of the wiper/cowl drain area on the driver's side. I have rust there and want to figure out a plan of attack to repair it...

And what did you do with the old sheet metal you cut out? I need some of the firewall on the driver's side...

If your doing all this fab work why not put the vetter trans in it also?

First off cool project and nice fabrication skills.
Second that is one massive and wide trans tunnel, are you going to have enough room to put seats in this thing?

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
Though this is a lot of fabrication it's using parts I have laying around. This is intended to be a relatively inexpensive daily driver. So lengthening the torque tube and all that just added cost (not to mention I'm using most of the rear parts and vette transaxle on my 68 Camaro).
The tunnel is wide, but the seats still fit as it's almost as wide as the stock vette. However, the firewall is pushed WAY back in the car so the front seats will likely slide back against the rear seats. What the hell, the rear seats are pretty much "storage only" anyway.
I have no idea what it'll weight, and quite frankly I don't care. If this were my dedicated track car it'd have a full tube frame and weight would be a priority.

yeah, I tossed the old stuff. It wouldn't have done much good to anyone as it was in a million pieces. I would cut a little, check, cut a little more, check, for hours.

What engine and transmission are you using? At least you can just buy corvette headers if you are using a ls engine.

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
The donor cars are 2002 Z06 and a 98 Z28.
Engine:
The 3rd gen is getting the LS1 from the Z28 with all the corvette accessories and batwing oil pan. Possibly a turbo after I drive it for a while (this is my new daily driver)
Trans:
T56 from a Viper.
Front Suspension:
the Z06 was stripped for my 68 Camaro project (www.projectawdcamaro.com) so I had the frame rails and cross member. I pirated the suspension parts for now, but I'll be building my own control arms (basically so I don't have to buy another set). It'll be running triple adjustable coil overs
Rear Suspension:
4th gen rear, custom coil over mounts, triple adjustable coil overs
Wheels/Tires:
Stock Z06
Interior:
As of right now I plan on using as much of the Vette as I can. The seats for sure, and I'll see how the dash and console go when I get that far.

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
Basically I have over $35K in the 68 already and I got to the point where I had to start making all the custom parts (the parts I cannot make at home: drive shafts, transmission to TC adapter, etc). These small parts alone were going to be over $5K.
Add to that I got married and purchased a bigger (more expensive) house, and I ran out of cash.
I found the 3rd gen and thought I'd make it a simple daily driver with a total of about $4K wrapped up. However, the more I cut, the bigger the ideas got!
The plan now is to get the 3rd gen up and going as a daily driver, then put my concentration and money back on the AWD car.
The AWD car is a long term project. I've had it forever, and I don't plan on selling it, so it'll get done when time permits.

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
why AWD? How many camaros have you seen with AWD? It's more of an engineering proof of concept for me than anything. I know parts are going to fail. I know things won't be right the first time. I work in R&D so I'm used to these things. You figure out what doesn't work and try ideas until it does.
I figure the AWD and all wheel steering would be great for the small "low speed" auto cross courses we see at Good Guys events and the like.
It may not be great on larger road courses, but what the hell, it'll be fun to drive around (especially in the snow with some gnarly tires on it!)
I'm not building it to any class rules or anything. It's just something I wanted to do, so I started in.
Can you replicate this in any other car? Sure you can. But it'll take a complete custom tube chassis and lots of parts. Like the old adage goes, "anything can be done with enough time and money".

Chevrolet toyed around with the idea on a prototype IROC, there is an article somewhere about it.

Yeah, I gotta say, youre better off getting a subaru for the winters and saving your thirdgen from those NASTY Idaho winters! I've driven in Boise in the wintertime (Used to make a regular trip from oregon to salt lake city, Ut, and I wouldnt put my F-bodies at risk for all the cheese sticks at Arbys! LOL)

4WS is cool in theory, but useless in a performance application without some serious computer hardware to back it up. At speed you do NOT want a traditional 4ws system. The car will be extremely twitchy and unpredictable.

AWD First Gen, i have actually thought of this before, it would be sick if you rallied it when its done, but then again it would be a show to get such a one of a kind car dirty. Good luck with both cars they are both look real good.

I've been building the rear suspension using all our parts and coil overs.
Very similar design to 1984 Camaros white car with the Nelson TT engine.
I'll post pics in a couple of days. I won't be in the garage tonight.

Here's some quick and crappy pics of the rear install (I'll be putting in the coil over mounts this weekend, so I'll update then):

Your one crazy ****! And I mean that in the best way possible.
Quick question. Where do you plan on putting the exhaust?

whats the plans for an exhaust? Seeing damn near everything is custom maybe you can be the first 3rd gen to have longtubes w/ true dual 3 inch that dont hang below the frame and rub over bumps lol
I cant even imagine the time you have invested in this. Am subscribed

Looks like there is still some space left for a fueltank, although it looks as if that should be somewhat smaller then stock.

"stock" tank (it's from the 4th gen donor car). I do not plan on changing it at all. We'll see how that goes.
I'll be running 2.5" exhaust on this build as it will be traveling through the tunnel like the Vette exhaust.
3" is nice, but a slight pain to work with for minimal gain on a mostly stock LS1.
Here are links to the last 3 high profile company projects I was involved with:
Velocity Camaro; 427LS, 3" stainless exhaust:
