a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
picked up a 92 for cheap on Craigslist and was gonna make a nice daily driver. Then the plasma cutter got loose after a few beers and this is what happened:

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
The donor cars are 2002 Z06 and a 98 Z28.
Engine:
The 3rd gen is getting the LS1 from the Z28 with all the corvette accessories and batwing oil pan. Possibly a turbo after I drive it for a while (this is my new daily driver)
Trans:
T56 from a Viper.
Front Suspension:
the Z06 was stripped for my 68 Camaro project (www.projectawdcamaro.com) so I had the frame rails and cross member. I pirated the suspension parts for now, but I'll be building my own control arms (basically so I don't have to buy another set). It'll be running triple adjustable coil overs
Rear Suspension:
4th gen rear, custom coil over mounts, triple adjustable coil overs
Wheels/Tires:
Stock Z06
Interior:
As of right now I plan on using as much of the Vette as I can. The seats for sure, and I'll see how the dash and console go when I get that far.

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
I am a little spoiled! The garage is 30X64 attached to the house, and I have a 30X40 detached. Currently in the house garage I have the 92, the 68 on the frame rack, the 98 on jack stands, my daily piece of crap S10, and the wifes car. For tools there's a Pit Wagon I built a while back with room for a welder a nitrogen bottle lots of storage and a stainless tool box, a large sanding belt tubing notcher, an Ercoliner digital tubing bender, two mig welders, 3 tool boxes (two of which built into work benches), very large sand blast cabinet, and bunch of storage and other crap.
If I don't have it I only have to drive a few miles to the shop (I'm a Product Development Manager for Ridetech) where I have access to CNC mills, lathes, CNC tubing bender, lifts, pretty much everything I'd ever need!

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
I might put the C5 rear in later. This is actually a "budget" project using all the left over parts I've accumulated over the past few years.
The C5 rear is difficult to use as it does not have a yoke, so you have to make a bearing carrier and custom shaft to make it all work (I'm doing that on the 68 and I really didn't want to do it again).
I could use a different center section that's set up ready to go, but that'll be a later on project. Maybe next winter.

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
It would have to be extended as I'm keeping the back seat (daily driver, remember). It can be done, but it's a pain.
I have this stuff laying here, so it's going in as cheaply and easily as I can make it (well, easy being subjective at this point).

When your done with the 3rd gen you should take it by and show the previouse owner and be like" see what you could have done with it" and just drive away lol

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
From everything I've read the C5 corvettes and on have a rear transaxle, (I'm sure the original poster knows this) but I don't know how easy it would be to get the rearend in a 3rd gen

This looks like it could be a pretty cool build. I too vote for IRS, but C4 IRS would be much easier to use.

What are you going to do for the steering column and dash?

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
Sorry, but I hate th C4 rear. I think it's actually easier to use the SLA C5 parts. However, this is a quick winter deal so I have a new daily in the spring.
The interior (and just about everything) is out of the C5.

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
The build is taking a while as I only work on it a couple nights each week.
I have the vette firewall and wheel wells mostly in (I had to make lots of small sheet metal panels to get everything to fit and look right).
I'll get some pics tomorrow when I'm in the garage and post em up.

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
front suspension is ALL stock c5 Vette, though I will be running our coil overs (Ridetech) instead of the transverse leaf. I basically cut my C5 in half and put the entire frame under the front of the Camaro, cutting out anything in the way (which is pretty much EVERYTHING. . . stock rails, firewall, fender wells, etc).

Here are a few more pics (sorry, they kind of suck).
Basically just building sheet metal panels to fill the holes between the stock Vette firewall, inner fender wells, and frame:

Yes, for now I'm going to use the Vette dash. Basically anything I have left from the Vette that's not being used on the 68 is being thrown into the 92.
Hell, I'm even going to use the Vette floors.

Talk about one hell of a sleeper. This is truly a 4 seater vette if I ever had to picture it lol.Would love to see the dash mounted in there for mockup of fitment.Your going to create a whole new wave of 3rdgenners doing c5 dashes instead of 4th gen dash swaps lol.Awesome work and creativity. The hours put in in already deserves alot of praise.

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
Though this is a lot of work it's actually not as much as my "real" project:
www.projectAWDcamaro.com
I actually got a little bored of the first gen and I was at a point where I had to custom built a lot of parts, so I took a break to build the 3rd gen as daily driver.

My true favorite has always been the 3rd gens but I do like the 1st. A friend of mine did a frame up on a 68 a years back with his old man (who has since passed) and has won a few contests with it. He blew the engine though and is saving money for the top end. It was stock except for the 1000 HP engine under the hood. Guess I will be watching that other site too. I am trying to teach myself body work so I will be bugging you when you get to that point. Thanks!

Re: a third gen, a Z06, and a long winter
actually I split the vette trans tunnel and widened it to fit the Viper T56 and I started mocking up the vette floors (looks really cool from the bottom as everything is flat).
I didn't get any pics over the weekend so I'll have to take some tonight.
