Custom Ram Air Box Fabrication - Ram Air II Hood - See Pics

Well, I wanted to have the same option as the 98-02 F-Body, so I built my own air box based on the Volant CAI package - which is not an option for our cars. It wasn't a bolt-on seeing that I had to due a little bit of adjusting, and replace a few parts to get it to fit.

However, when it was all said and done.....I think it came out pretty good. It looks clean and simple, and so far those who have seen it in person thought it looked like a purchased factory product.

Anyone ever done something like this? If so, show me some pics of your setup.......I'm always looking for new ideas.

Here is the 98-02 intake by Volant...

Here's my custom box......

That's pretty cool! How much did all that cost and how did you do it? What parts and how long did it take you? I'm looking to do something like that on mine.

Thanks man, it was actually pretty pricey because I bought the Volant Kit ($250 alone) for the 98-02 F-Body, used some of the parts, and then custom built the air box just to fit 3rd gens. The other parts came from local stores like Home Depot, and the auto parts store. I ditched the radiator shroud, modded the top of my radiator, and had to re-route my coolant hose. However, I don't think that's necessary on factory TPI setups. The radiator fan does have to mounted directly to the radiator. The duct running into the air box has to be at just the right height for the hood to close without crushing or breaking it.

It took about two weeks and quite a few cuts and mistakes to get it right.........it wasn't hard, just tedious. lol

Anyways.......I'm wanting to do a summer project with my sons and build about 10 of these and sell them to members here.......gonna look into the total pricing. I'll keep you posted.

Yes, he's right it's just 5 wires. I didn't have to cut them, I just re-routed them to run down the inside of my valve covers.

Thanks for the compliment man.

Thanks for the compliment man.

Cool! Good to know wires are long enough and don't have to splice, ect. Thanks!

That is wicked cool.

I wonder how hard it would be to fabricate a box out of fiberglass.. I need to find a way to draw air fro my ram-air 1 hood into my supercharger.

It would be ridiculously easy. Shape the box with cardboard and tape. Then fiberglass it. Attach foam or weatherstripping.
