Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
Finally got to the computer with my disk, so ill post a couple better pics to show some of the quarter panel shaping.
I am sill looking to get some more work done to this with in the next few days, but also need to kinda plan my next step, I think I stay with the rear end direction and start on the rear valance and rear bumper next, spoiler and then start going forward with the side skirts and such.
I am not sure how i want the valance to really fit so ill have a day or two to ponder that. The spoiler is def as the drawing...really like the idea of the center plexi/lenax window. lol
also will be tinkering with the car about too mechanically wise, still cashing down bugs and going threw whats needed to get "whats there to par" first...then upgrades.
Craigslist searching like crazy for rims and tire also...no real luck yet.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
Have a massive update to do...hoping pic up tomorrow, just been swaped with the bikes past couple weeks.
But hood is done, awaiting primer.
Rear Quaters are 90%done. All Fiberglass work is done. Just lil sanding left n some poly to finalize. Working on rear bumper as of last night. Still not sure on valance, so ill just complete bumper as is, since I want valance as a seperate piece anyway.
Started Lambo Hings...yeah, thats alotta Mod/Fab for a simple function...kinda stupid, but its what I want.
Ive alread cut side skirts into a now 3pc. So once doors are done, I can make sid skirts n start front fender.
As for front tilt, another... Alotta Fab because of the factory design lay out.
Question really will be...low verse tilt...so im considering a less trafitional approach to tilting front n still dropping car some...may do a supersize hood tilt, with top of fenders n nose....but we see.
Finally got money right for rims n tired, but which...is now the challenge...cant make up my mind...rrrrr

I like what you are doing here. I don't know how I've missed this considering I did my own fiberglass fender flares and I'm always interested in things like this.
This kind of reminds me of the greenwood body kits, What size wheels and tire are you going with on this?
Keep up the good work,

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
Thanks guys for the pos feed back.
Really think I got things looking pretty good right now so hoping to update wit pics in the day.
As for rims...rrrrr
This is a pain, honestly I dont know, atleast 10" but really like to do 11" or 12" in the back and 10" in front. Im not conserned about the fender mods needed, it more width.
Function n form.
I wanted to get rims prior to front fenders because the rims really determine alot...even with suspention.
So ill guess we will see, but id like to get the zr1spiders so far.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
As for hing...ummm, actually I got a swing style for 4th gen. I really dont like the universal kits n I havent seen any 3rd kits. Came across a guy you had em for his96 camaro, didnt want to cut car after buyin them, so sat in shed for a year. I offered a 100$ and he let em go.
So they are a nice set, I cleaned em down to metal, repainted n installed. Ill def show progess pics of the install. Not to bad, just double think n cut...n they worked well, clear fender with n problem.
Easy to weld too, cause our factory hinges(area) are pretty beffy (factory hinges are welded at door)
So I didnt have to do any major bracing, did a little for my own piece of mind, but as long as your level n get both swings to lay in level, perfect tg

So your using a "lambo door hinge" kit for a 4th gen ???? And I thought you had to buy the ones with actuators....I didn't know you could just add them in...

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
Ok, So the Lambo Doors, as you can see work.
I used 4th gen Kit basically to install and yeah, i took a pic every step of the way. Might do a little...this is how i did it thread, but like i said. it worked great and i am happy with them.
Also did get the last layer of glass on the quarters and as you can see, started putty...basicall, i put a dummy coat on to just see if i have any thing major to adjust. in this case, not really. the tail light area will
have the most work of it all. so i am happy about that as well.
hood is primed now, but i posted progress pic, couple lil things i wanted to get rid of.
but hopefully you guys like.
and to answer the question. yes i hope to make a video soon...idk about how to...simply cause i dont think itll really be something ppl are interested in, but def a video of the car and the work to get a better view of it, then just pics

Better view of the re shaped bumper. Note the black line, that is were the quarters and rear bumper meet...remember I want to keep it all removable.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
The kits just sell the actuators with hinges and have mounting points already there, but the difference in the kits is just that.
Other then the fact the kit I used didn't have them, I am ok with that because, yes you can add them and you can add them in different locations for different reasons.
my case, I can locate strong set, pretty small and cheaper then what the kits include elsewhere...
kits just make it easy...or more convinant I guess youll say.
also for me, I am modifying so much of the fenders, its better I get something later on to fit my needs then to be working around an actuator.

Not reallt much to attach, its 5" cut out n 3" is needed to clear fender.
Ill post pic of the back side of the hing, did add to it there, but as for suport if you have an ideal, let me know.
I do (on side note) have ideals on the car to stiffen up as a whole...

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
In some aspects I could sew consern, but I think its small to none, pillars were my conser, which I was able to advoid, as for fender n front. If I crash, car is screwed by the front tilt alone...lol
As for chassis aspects, there really wasn't that much taking out maybe the pictures make it seem more then it is.
but I'm sure the plate that is mounted behind is sufficient to compensate.
not to mention you just wild and a half inch stock support brace from the lower to uppeinner fender, as my lambo hing is welded in.

I was going to ask if this was just...cut and bolt in ...or ...cut bolt and weld in...
When you do the drivers side ...can you take a pic with fender off befor you cut...then cut ..take a pic..to show what was cut...and a pic of the lambo hinge before you put it on..

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
Started driver door tonight...fig I nail it right away, but nope...lol
So I should have both done by tomorrow.
mine are bolt on style for 4tg gen, but after you cut away hings on 3rd gen, I drill n taped in so I could bolt on in order to get some adjustment prior taking up, alining, adjusting then welding.
Its really touchy, for example, gas strut will change things as much as adding panels, really takes some time n lil turns on the adj nuts to get just right, but once you do...weld it all in n your gold.
Although I am veryvtrustin in my welds, I like the bolts as extra suport n a back up to the welds, so iop keep them in.

Just finished reading and am wondering what you decided to do with the gas door. I can't get the pics to work on this puter. I want to vote for shaving it! I've always been interested in the Targa top, just like 'Simon & Simon'. Hope it works out. Let me know if you need an extra pair hands once I get back.

you've got alot of great abilities, but im going to be mean on this one. i know its better to say nothing if you have nothing good to say, but this is horrible, and everyone in here is telling you good job. you are destroying the **** out of that car. lambo doors went out of style 10 years ago. the fenders and the hood went out of style back in the 70's when they were doing that stuff on the vettes. they didnt look good then, and they wont look good now. the only time i can see the flares looking good is if it has 12" wide wheels all around like a road race car. but now its not even flares, its got some kind of testarossa scoops added to them. the car you sold to get this one was ruined too, it looked like it had a chevy hd hood on it and some stock carolla s wheels. you can't do a wild paintjob and bodykit with stock wheels!!!! you should have just painted the gta... then you would have had a nice looking car. again, sorry to be negative, but i see these types of creations riding around all the time. the only person that likes them is the owner. the rest are half lying tying to be nice about it.

Well, thank you for the input. I dont take it offensive or negative actually.
True styling features have ques of older trends but thats intended. I am not appling these featirers to be trendy and I would also agree with the tragedy of cutting up a solid TA, but in this case. This TA is far from solid, a paint jov would make it look like the rest of the dieeing birds driving around who are getting lol at.
and I think if you review what ive said you see that its not a defensive reply.
1. This is fun for me, its not a seriouse thing.
2. I want it crazy n different...i dont want it to look like everyone elses, expecially to be accepted.
3. Its 100% built not bought, custom made...which will make it a love hate. So far ppl like the ablities more then the car. Thanks again guys
4. Its inspired by the IMSA cars.....yeah, 70's widebodies n the doors are for the styling theme, jet fighter....yeah, 2000....so, if anything. Im doing good there...lmao
5. im so getting 12"tires, 11 @ mimn and am a scca member (this year first year)
6.to inspire!
I am showing what im doing in hopes someone will create there own, I hate the idea custom is $$$$ in a car n cool is the same rims as the forum approved.
No,, custom is what you make it n see in it, cool is that feeling you get from it
Besides alot of ppl can do both with some $$ not millions.
Some dont have a choice.
So again..i do appreciate the reply n input n hopefully you will see something later on that you like.
Although targa is very 80's n front tilt is a drag car thing....hummm n actuating spoiler is very Italian sports carish...
Maybe the Tablet in Dash, thats a now n very cool says alot of forums

i would say id have to agree with diggler but i remember your old car as well and loved that thing, even though the lambo doors and all the fiberglassing isnt my cup of tea either i can appreciate the uniqueness you have going on and instead of sitting behind a computer or making renderings your advancing your skills to actually make it a reality, thats what i admire about this build.

They are wrong...I like your car and the skill it takes to do that...everyone that knows me knows ...I dont like fords...but when I see a custom ford ...I dont beat it down and say its stupid or ugly. ..I can appreciate the work that went in to....I migbt say something like " they should of put the work in to any GM " ...
POINT IS. " it's his car and I and many others think he is building a nice car "
I like thirdgen.org but the one thing I dont like is how ...people start a build and post pics of what there doing and someone has to say mean things about it.....there are so many different topics ...go find one you like or leave ...
Let this guy have his BUILD THREAD back...and stop putting his car down ...

Well thank you for the admiration.
and your very right, i am getting better and better in each aspect, def not an easy task.
And I still agree and feel the same way as stated.
I mean in short if this was a Trans Am that had a solid body, 1/2 decent interior and ran good, just needing fresh paint. I would not of cut it!
But the amount of money and time it would take to get this car to that condition, well...i might as well buy a Trans Am in that condition. It be cheaper
But this is not the case. The body is mangled up, interior is chopped, it runs...for the most part, but it has been boogied in so many ways that its already a task to un-boogy to get back to par enought to even go forward.
Seriously the T56....is what i bought, it simply was attached to a 1/4 decent Trans Am.
My 89GTA, was even worst in the beginning then this in the sense it was bare....lol, took 3 other Trans Am to put together 1 nice one and even then, i did the car twice in the years i had it (once in viper red and once in black) biggest issue was selling it to buy it back and deal with boogies, but my intention was to have a super clean TA with a Stroker, all the time and money went into power.
and even that was really custom...ppl loved or hated the hood (with pro scoop) for example.
But its the best example of what i am trying to say.
The 89GTA, I wanted to do Widebody...wanted to do MSE spoiler that actually moved, wanted to do air ride and a tagar, ect...infact i have post here on 3rdgen from then about it,
But the 89 was so nice and in such good condition (for me) that i was too scared to go that far and always said...one day i will get a TA to do the things i always wanted...
This my friends is just that
I have a poll up on another thread asking about ideas for paint or for concept pieces and functions...
I am a person who says what i mean and does what i say.
This car in the end (6-8m) will not at all be alike any other TA, ever..and it will be loved and hated. Maybe i get everything 100% perfect and maybe only 98% here and there, but i will at least know that i did do the things i always wanted.
My TA love and passion is probly deeper then most, this car is my Lambo as a child and if i could have anyone in the world it really would be a 3rdgen 87-89.
so i think if anything, you guys should look at this as an opportunity to daydream the same creation. have fun and become a part of it verse picking at the genre of the concepts.
shoot, if anything...add a thought and an idea...!
never know i might just do it

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
As a quick update, not much done this week. And the car is outside under cover now as the bikes come in so itll be atleast another week before i can do anything. So I will order some lil parts, new struts and stuff for the doors.
get switch for column as it has wiggled itself loose again, this time ill simply have to tear it all out replace and rebuild it again.
I do atleast have both doors done at this point just need a new balljoint for the shock to run both at same time. The driverside was much more difficult as I found the tail end of the swing hing (ball joint area) was slightly tweeked out...1/8th bend....down the line will be a 1/4 to 1/2" issue....what i get for buying used parts.
but either way...i was able to do it. door opens and closes were its correctly and tight, just now the inside lip of the fender had to be curved out because of the gas strut just....just....just...touching...lol
so i did it to both sides.
only other difference (and am lucky here) it actually creates a slightly better swing out, so i will change pass stops to match (so it looks same when both opened) but i am 6 1" so i was happy about it, not trying to limbo every time i get in and out
Other then that...its done.
Next is doors and sideskirts!
still debating the front tilt idea, especially after this...
a. hood only
b. front end

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
Yeah im thinking about it, really tempted, but lil bit nervous at same time. Reason is cause front bumper n headlights are really no good, been messing with lil bit to fix but really like to just replace, expecially if I do a tilt.
That n the hinging, want to put actuators on it but need to find a baring style hing or itll really be from scratch

I think the tilt hood might be the way to go. There is a thread on here where someone has already done the tilt hood on a bird and it really looks good. Any of the complete tilt mods that I've seen done had either a poor fit and/or were clumsy to open and close.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
Next issue consider is hight.
Im not lowering untill after rims n tires, but I do want front lip spoiler like drawing, so that pl_s or minusinf lowering kit, kinda challenges a front tilt.
At moment, cuting fenders high like c4 n tilting the hood
seems lil more do able or cutting nose at body line above fog lights, but to get it back down tight after that....rrrrrr

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
you've got alot of great abilities, but im going to be mean on this one. i know its better to say nothing if you have nothing good to say, but this is horrible, and everyone in here is telling you good job. you are destroying the **** out of that car. lambo doors went out of style 10 years ago. the fenders and the hood went out of style back in the 70's when they were doing that stuff on the vettes. they didnt look good then, and they wont look good now. the only time i can see the flares looking good is if it has 12" wide wheels all around like a road race car. but now its not even flares, its got some kind of testarossa scoops added to them. the car you sold to get this one was ruined too, it looked like it had a chevy hd hood on it and some stock carolla s wheels. you can't do a wild paintjob and bodykit with stock wheels!!!! you should have just painted the gta... then you would have had a nice looking car. again, sorry to be negative, but i see these types of creations riding around all the time. the only person that likes them is the owner. the rest are half lying tying to be nice about it.

That forum is pretty cool, ill have to float around on it to get some pointers.
Nice find.
I did start sanding the rear quaters and am happy to say, it wont need much attention.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
They are wrong...I like your car and the skill it takes to do that...everyone that knows me knows ...I dont like fords...but when I see a custom ford ...I dont beat it down and say its stupid or ugly. ..I can appreciate the work that went in to....I migbt say something like " they should of put the work in to any GM " ...
POINT IS. " it's his car and I and many others think he is building a nice car "
I like thirdgen.org but the one thing I dont like is how ...people start a build and post pics of what there doing and someone has to say mean things about it.....there are so many different topics ...go find one you like or leave ...
Let this guy have his BUILD THREAD back...and stop putting his car down ...

and i think it brings up a good point, i have not really posted as much as i would liked (pics steps ect) because i know most will not like the mods in the first place and atleast haft of the experts will pick at the approach. But after this all has been said.
I have changed that thought and will def show more and how i am doing it, atleast.
or the build thread and meaning behind it is pointless really.

Thanks, I just recently found that site, I registered on it but it doesn't seam to allow full use of it, And no one replies to emails asking why, After looking around on the site it will tell you that you've reached you allowed searches, I then just log into it , then log out and continue to view the forum, And it does have a lot of good work going on there.

More Pics,,, More pics!!!
I really just wanted to subscribe.
As far as the haters.. I used to hate low riders that bounced around town. Heck I still would never build one.
But my brother in law has built 8 or 9 at least. I am a bit older than him and had to help him with some welding and things like that 20 years ago when he was first starting out. All I can say is now I respect the work the guys put into the cars.
I respect the work you are putting into your car. As a matter of fact I am still thinking of cutting one up and building a 100% costume super car. Like a something that makes a Lambo look mild. May never do it but its a dream of mine.
Keep up the good work man. I have your back.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angle" Build
You guys are awesome and I will def do some pics tomorrow, kinda an addition to the above updates to hold ya over til I get this next sectionn in effect.
It always seems as I soon as I start moving fwd, work comes in...lol...got three bikes this week
But ill def make time for TA this weekend.
Really need to get rear quaters filled over n smooth out. Finish rear bumper. Start doors, overlays.
This should get the rear about there.
N give me a chance to work on the rear valance, still want as a detatchable piece. The sideskirts, I am thinking of creating a splitter thatll attach to bottom of tge one I fab, so I can do that as well.
Its a lil hard to bounce around so much, because I want to take the time to attend to the issues in each section as im tgere, so not to have to go back over myself later.
I did get an offer today, im considering.
partial trade towards one of the bikes, 15yards of carbon fiber @48" wide.
Kinda tempted with this cause itll give me tons to use and cheaper then my current discount.
I think if the car came out as I hope, It really stir up hate to have a full carbon
Interior and Some exterior parts.
But we see....kinda still need tge cash for the car for things I cant just make....lol

I agree, I lovE custom cars trucks n bikes all the same, even if I wouldnt ride or do it, still respect it.
Like with some of the bikes I do, not all of it is my thing, but still treat it as if it was.
N yeah, honestly one of my biggest dreams is to build a complete one off car, ever gt a chance, check out the baily blade on youtube...its like making a kit car outta scratch.

Man If you only knew...lol, ive been tryn my hand at videos, more for me to document it, but truth be told. You do have the skills!
Ive been lucky to been exposed both ways, when kid I hung out at my unkles speed shop n were I started painting n airbrushing...manly old school home built drag cars for guys wjo just wanted something that looked cool...so I learned alotta cheap approaches. Then lil older I worked a a high end restro/paint shoo that didny touch cars under 40K. Learned the expensive approach.
Personally, I landed some were in the middle n am still learning, just my approach is alil more innovative in the sence of how to...but def the harder way because wehat you dont spend you will work for.
I could of bought the vision kit, imsa style for 1200 and only have to deal with cuting n overlaying in the fiberglass panels, but then id look just like tthe others who have done tge same n still risk, things being off a 1/8th here n there.
Anyone who buys aftermarket knows is far from 100% most times. So why kick the DIY Guy in the head if he is only get 98%, ya know
Lol
Ima also keep lil tally on whats actually spent in this.
