Disassembled 87 GTA project, lotsa goodies

Location Louisville, Ky. Seeing if anyone's looking for a project GTA. I have a 87, dark red (forget the color name) with red interior (very rare combo) & digital dash car in good shape. Not rusted out anywhere. It's a 5.7l hardtop. There's a small dent in the right rear & a larger dent in the hood. I'm getting ready to move and have come to the conclusion I'm too damn old & fat to ever put this thing back together!

Here's a list of what I can remember, if interested we'll get into more detail.

The original 5.7, .010 over, flat tops, 218/224 Comp cam for FI. Less than 20k miles, probably less than 15k. Ported L98 heads, multi-angle vj, not sure of their condition been sitting awhile. I have some of the TPI components but the motor needs more induction. I had fully ported intake, CAI, siamesed SLP runner, 52mm TB & it couldn't deliver enough air. 700R4 included, needs rebuilding.

It has tubular LCA's & panhard, and includes the OE parts. 3.27 9-bolt I bought from another member to replace the original 9-bolt that needs friction cones milled. The original rear is included. The "new" rear end was sand blasted & painted with POR-15 (black), including all brake components, brackets, etc. Both sets of rear brake components are included. I even painted the rotors with POR, get em turned & they'll be good as new!

I dropped the fuel tank, wire-wheeled it & the straps & painted them with POR, and installed a new 155lph pump (still new, never ran it). While the tank was out I undercoated up to the front K-member.

Original gold honeycomb wheels in good condition.
Drivers seat recovered just before I parked it.
MSD ignition & (maybe) coil
Later model serpentine belt brackets.
Billet adjustable FPR & rail mounted pressure gauge.
Hooker thirdgen headers (the good ones they stopped making)
Aftermarket muffler on original cat-back pipe.
Fluidampr street version, also POR'd
Headlight motor bushings replaced before parked.
Includes some tuning hardware, an extra eprom, not sure what all.

Serious inquiries contact me, not sure what it's worth but willing to negotiate. Someone tell Gas Monkey they need this car!

Edited to add it's a rolling chassis, fuel tank & rear end are installed so it'll be easy to get on a trailer.

Not parting it out except as a last resort. IMO it's too nice a car to part out. If I do I will keep you in mind. Thanks!

Re: Disassembled 87 GTA project, lotsa goodies

I will try to get some pictures tomorrow. What are the "normal rust issue spots"? Not playing dumb, I guess when I read the forums regularly rust areas hadn't become normal yet! There are some small stress cracks on the roof at the door/body intersection that were common back then, I will get pics of those.

I had pictures of the work I did underneath but unfortunately lost them when a HD crashed. It would take some effort to take new pics under the car so that'll wait until it matters, for now please take my word for it. The gas tank I painted silver, the straps and all other components black. The tubular LAC's & panhard are black.

NBD.

Battery trays are a big culprit.

cars commonly are rotten under the bat tray and near some of the GFX, and some rust around the window frame etc. Inside the fender by door, in the corners by firewall where gunk builds up.

My Kansas/nebraska car had issues in some of these spots.

What i'm getting it is if you're roller is clean i don't have to pay 10k to have mine restored

Re: Disassembled 87 GTA project, lotsa goodies

It has spent more than half its life in a garage. I bought it from the original owner who only drove it regularly for a handful of years then it became his garage queen toy. As an added bonus it still has the early 90's era in-car mobile bat phone... Same deal with me after I got it, I drove it a couple of years then it became my hobby so it spent a most of the time in the garage. After I blew the 700R4 I stored it for years. It's been outside for about 1 1/2 yrs so it's dirty but still in great shape.

Bought the extra 9 bolt from Shawn today. Car is in good shape and would make a great project. Much better shape than I thought it would be in.
