Car: 1991 Trans Am WS6
Engine: 5.0 TPI
Transmission: T5
Axle/Gears: 3.42 Torsen
1991 Firebird Trans Am, Portland OR Area

Hello everyone. Car for sale is a 1991 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6, with a 305 TPI and a factory 5-speed. It is a T-Top car, and had the 3.08 gears stock, although they have since been changed to 3.42's and a Torsen Differential from a 2000 Camaro SS. Current miles are ~169k. This will be a long ad, I am trying to include every relevant detail I can think of. (Tags were done, and are now good till '16, photos from last fall.)

Paint issue on rear bumper visible in this photo:

Dyno run from 2013, only engine change since then is going from 195 to 180deg thermostat.

Missing blinker cover visible in below:

I will try and get some interior shots, you can see it in the gopro footage as well.

With much regret, I am forced to sell my baby. In the next months time, I am getting married and moving to start my graduate studies. The locality I am moving to enjoys snow 3 months a year many years, and I cannot afford a second car on a student's budget.

Before I get into the gritty details, the car has been built for autocross and street use. I have a youtube channel showing most of the events I have attended with the car: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNdcNkWGiTmrkVwoDOg9UL1fuDvbabZ_B That playlist is the only event where I ran the car in its current state. In the previous season, the car was being changed between every event, and I had been running too much caster, the scrub is noticeable. Some highlights from the 13' season can be found here: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNdcNkWGiTmoP4_6mmamCjGA9o_NXvQQn

The above should give an idea of what the car is, below I will get into the details.

Let me be clear: This car has several issues, some minor, and 1 in particular that is fairly serious. I have been using it seasonally, and as a weekend fun/ autocross car. After getting it back on the road after last winter, the car has started making a noise that I believe to be a collapsed lifter. I was able to isolate the source of the noise to the drivers side cylinder bank, rearmost cylinder.

Another issue is that the title is rebuilt, but it is in my name. The previous owner hit a deer at night on a backroad. The hood was replaced, and a repaint was done over most of the car. I have confirmed, on an alignment rack, and visually, that the car is straight. The lines between the new hood and the surrounding panels are not perfect. I got the car in not great condition, cheap, as a project, but I wanted it to be sure it wasn't twisted.

I DO NOT run the car lightly. I enjoy it every time I drive it. I DO however, warm the car up before getting on it, change the oil regularly, keep up on maintenance etc. Only recently did the car form an issue I haven't had the chance to fix. The car has been a ton of fun over the last few years.

Weight Jacks, came with 5.5" - 8" #800 Front Springs, 9" #175 Rear Springs, ride height is ~1.5" below stock. Spring rates were recommended by Donovan at GC, given the details of the rest of the car.

Problems:

Aforementioned lifter noise.

Noise in the rear at low speed, I suspect it is due to pinion angle, as under throttle the sound is not present. (not totally sure though)

Window, door, and T-Top seals are showing their age, they will leak in some circumstances.

Car was repainted after the P.O hit a deer, but not all parts were painted. The new paint was probably a cheap job, since it has been easily damaged.

Still running stock low power exhaust manifold. Haven't had the money to go to headers.

Hole in rear blinker, can be seen in above photos.

Rust under the battery, surface rust can be seen on hatch as well.

Passenger front blinker missing front plastic cover.

Passenger side piece of the black lower air dam is missing.

Rear main leaks a little oil.

Clutch pedal is loose. (side to side motion)

Oil fill cap has a hard time coming off when engine is warm.

Brake pedal has the characteristic squish early in the pump.

-----------------

I have done the typical maintenance items such as fuel filter, fresh fluids in trans, fresh fluids went in with the new rear gears/diff, regular oil changes, even if mileage not reached, new battery, all bushings replaced exception to motor mounts, see above section for details, T-Stat, coolant, brake pads, rotors, brake fluid, flex lines, front wheel bearings, axles were inspected when the rear end was worked on and deemed in good shape, and more.

If I do not get any decent offers on the car, I may fix it and keep it for awhile, and try to sell at my new hometown before the snows blow in. I am open to offers, and hope that some experienced members of the forum may give me some feedback on price.

Given the lifter issue, and the title brand, I am asking $2800 obo.

And, just to be stereotypical: "My loss is your gain" :P

Additional photos are available upon request, I can also supply VIN upon request for carfax checks etc. Contact here, or, for rapid response, at maas.andrew (at) gmail.com

As a final comment, the P.O claimed there was an engine rebuild at ~145k miles, but did not have receipts, so I only mention this as an afterthought. It was apparently done in response to the carfax event where there was a power problem worked on at the dealership.

Lets see it has high miles a rebuilt title engine and rear end noise and you beat on it every chance you get.I'd say its worth $500

Re: 1991 Firebird Trans Am, Portland OR Area

Despite a lot of the bad, it is a good project car. If I can get my ducks in a row with some of life's curve *****, I might make you an offer. My wife wants a '91-92 TA with a stick (Won't let her drive either of mine).

Can I get a picture of the RPO codes, the interior, engine bay?

Re: 1991 Firebird Trans Am, Portland OR Area

If you were closer I'd be all over this. Been looking for a 91-92 TransAm for some time. I don't feel that the price is too far out of line, especially with your honesty. Free Bump.
