looking for 85TA-shipping worth it?
Hey guys,I am getting myself geared up to begin searching for an85 TA.I sold mine a few years back and have hated myself for doing it ever since. These things are getting hard to find, way too many of them are getting parted out. What kind of costs are we talking about for any kind of door to door shipping.State to state to the Chicago burbs.Hopefully from a warm dry state(Texas,Arizona..) where the floors arent rotted out.Is it worth the cost and hassle?I know alot of you guys must be doing this already. What are we talking about money wise?Ballpark..
Thanks
Thanks

I bought my 79 in California and had it shipped to Michigan. Well worth the cost as there was 0 rust on the car. I know times have changed but I paid 700 door to door 5 years ago so expect to pay more but still worth every penny in my opinion.

It depends upon if you do it enclosed or open - obviously, open is cheaper. I've shipped a lot of cars to & from CT - furthest was from St. Maries, Idaho & it was less than $.50/mile enclosed. If you figure $.75-.85 per mile in your estimates you may be about right.
When you are ready to get an actual quote contact roy@doortodoortransport.net and tell him Chris in CT sent you - he'll give you your best price.

I shipped my new '89 IROC from Vancouver WA to deep south Texas (2500 miles) two weeks ago and used Door to Door transport. The quote for an enclosed transport was $1799 and $1100 for an open transport. I chose the open transport as I live off the beaten path away from the well traveled shipping routes and finding an enclosed transport was going to take much longer. I was extremely pleased with the experience. Mikela@doortodoortransport.com

Great looking car!
What I've found is that on the longer distance rides, you are more likely to be on the top of the rig and less likely to get as dirty as the ones underneath on an open carrier. That being said there is always the potential for tree damage if the driver isn't that attentive.
When I shipped my 79 43,000 mile Formula from Idaho I waited until the snow was gone & paid for open transport - but it came enclosed.

Ive shipped a few bikes by way of Uship, its a great way to go, usually get it shipped at a third of cost what a standard shipper charges. Truckers bid for your load.
