1982 Indy 500 Pace Car Edition Camaro

Last summer my friend was buying an 82 Indy Pace Car Camaro, unfortunately before it got safetied and he could pick it up someone totalled it. Anyways, he was told it was a 305HO, but from what I've read I thought the L69 wasn't made in 82. It had a quadrajet so it wasn't the LU5. Anyone know what motor came in this or if it was original? Also it was a 3 spd auto. I'm assuming its a TH350 cause it definately didn't shift like a TH200. It chirped second gear under half throttle when we test drove it. Hope someone can answer this cause I'm curious.

Stock it would have been an LG4 and THM 200C. However, it doesn't mean someone put an L69/THM350 combo in there

Edit: I could of also have been an LU5 car at one time but been converted to carb.

Yes -- available only with the LG4. 305LG4Cutlass said the pace car in question was an automatic, so I didn;t include that info

There was no factory TH350 on any thirdgen.

The only auto trans in 82 Z28's was a TH200c, 3-speed with no overdrive.

Okay, well I'm guessing its the LG4 powerhouse :-) but I really don't think it has the TH200C in it anymore. It only has 105,000 kilometers on it, but it was apparently driven very very hard its whole life and I doubt it would still have the 200C working in it. Even if it was it wouldn't have chirped going into 2nd. I imagine someone swapped a th350 with a shift kit into it. I didn't get a good look but the tranny pan didn't say metric on it.

Probably was a turbo 350 then. They are a fairly easy swap. The turbo 200 really doesn't hold up well to alot of abuse .

Sad to here of a Pace Cars demise....

Ya it is sad, he was waiting 3 months for the car, the guy kept delaying getting it safetied even though he had half my friends money. When the car got wrecked I think my friend was on the verge of tears! The owners son took the keys and took it for a joyride and spun it out into a pole. It still ran and drove when he got back but I can just imagine what he did to it. It ran perfect when we first heard it, after the accident it had valvetrain clatter like a diesel.
