I was wondering what the production was on the purple haze metallic color option, and the option code that came with it. this was the only year third gen that had this color and is one of my fav.
also there were 3 other colors new to 92 only, if anyone has pics of their cars these colors pls share, and if i could get the production #s and rpo .

There was 8588 purple haze cars made. The paint code is 84, if thats what you mean by option code.

The three other new colors are:

18 - Dark Green-Gray Metallic - 2659 made

45 - Polo Green II Metallic - 5365 made

80 - Medium Quasar Blue Metallic - 5191 made

I had one of the purple haze camaros until I had to trade it in. About four months later I was at the dealership taking pictures of a car for a insurance claim. Two cars over was my former purple haze camaro. New owner got into an argument with a light pole at 70 MPH. Needless to say the light pole won that argument, it's still standing. I felt like crying when I saw it.

MEDIUM QUASAR BLUE!!! I repainted my old 91 2.3L mustang that color. For a crustang the paint made it look goregous. If the sun hits it the right way it looks teal. :hail:

does anyone have a pic of a med. quasar blue car, i know ive seen one before, but i can't remember exactly what the color looks like.
I should get my hands on a dark green grey color since there weren't many made.
Im not real fond of my rs' teal color, but it had everything i wanted, v8, 5spd, ttop, fact cd, black int (i like the grey too) un modded, and it was a 92

Half of my car is the purple haze color, it was my brothers he bought it new and wrecked it in 96, its been sitting there until about a year ago when i got a new front end on it that is blue and the wrong year which is great, but anyway the back end looks like crap after sitting out in the sun for 7 years under a pine tree i can take a pic of it for you and post it but it dont look good.

Does anyone know how many of the purple haze '92 convertibles were made? I've recently purchased a '92 RS V8 Convertible in purple and have realized that I haven't seen a convertible this color before.

You won't be able to find information that specific, because you're looking for an option COMBINATION. GM tracked individual options, but didn't track combinations. So while you could know how many were a specific color, there is no way to know how many were a specific color AND had another option.

I too would love to know this information. I picked up a 1992 Z28 Convertible / Purple Haze but with Tan Leather interior. Every other one I have seen is either gray or black interior. Numbers would be great on it but we all know they weren't kept. I assume it is uncommon

I had an interesting run in with a purple haze camaro. I bought the first 91 RS in Southern Illinois in the new teal color. The next year when the new purple color came out, I was in a nearby town and passed through the cruising zone on a Friday night. One of the kids had just bought a purple RS(daddy financed probably) and saw me going by. He followed me all the way through town just to get beside me on a four lane highway. He nailed it so I nailed it. I pulled away from him a little since I had the added benefit of a Flowmaster and K&N filter. I just laugh to myself thinking this guy chased me through town to race an identical car. I guess he thought he was going to blow my doors off because it was a newer color Camaro. I don't see many of the teal 91s anymore, but I seem to see alot of purple 92s.

That's wild. Total opposite here in Texas. I see a lot of Teal Camaros. Not many Z28s anymore.. A lot of RS cars. I remember North / North East having a ton of these cars.

Ya its a nice color, there is a '92 RS down the street from me, some lady drives it and doesnt give a damn...faded and chiped up paint, its just her everyday car and doesnt know or care about it. Its sad.

Why is it that the only ones i see these days are also teal RSs?I havent seen a TPI equipped car going down the road in forever (besides mine of course).Were the TBIs that much more reliable or was it that they werent hot rodded as much and lived longer because of it?

Well the years that teal was availible (91-92 i think) were the years when Z28 production dropped sharply. For example, out of about 80 something thousand camaros mad ein 92, 6,000 i think were z28s. so the rest were RS's, that at best had the LO3.
