FOR THE RECORD 1984 RECARO R.I.P

Gonna strip and crush an '84 recaro this weekend and sadly just before her
27th birthday

Anyone wants the last 6 of the VIN let me know

This makes the 3rd Recaro that I had to put "down"

I HATE this part of my job

Re: FOR THE RECORD 1984 RECARO R.I.P

I've been there, had an 83' Recaro that probably shared the same fate, just too fargone to save the body and there was no title. I'm not sure if the body was scrapped, it got sold off after I parted it...but it most likely was.

Owner signed to his cousin or brother to trade for a tractor or some crap like that,But deal didnt go through so he left it as is and then died

The Son (family) sold it to me cheap becaue it reminded him of his dad and they had no further interest in it and wanted it gone and the family didnt want to mess with paper work on it.

Besides it has ALLOT of VERY rare and HTF parts

But the final verdict is that its getting stripped !!

Re: FOR THE RECORD 1984 RECARO R.I.P

My uncle has an Austin-Martin from he bought with no title. It took him 2 years to get a new title issued. He had to go through a private title company, who then worked various loop holes in different states to final get a legal title. It cost a lot and what a PITA.

Re: FOR THE RECORD 1984 RECARO R.I.P

Some states laws can make it a royal pain to get a title. I just found out how to relatively easily get one for a friend. Slightly costly but a title none the less. Even works when lien is listed for the car. Texas laws. Also New Hampshire did not used to require a title on a car over 10 years old. I have relatives there.

Well, gee, that's all the more reason to part it out, then...have at it. How kind of you to flaunt it on a restoration board Why you'd brag about stripping and parting a rare Recaro that has a title issue that isn't an issue in certain places is beyond me.

Have at it...

All honesty this would be a good place to start this thread, who needs parts for thier recaro this guy will have parts very soon. I also agree that title issues can be resolved just takes time and some money its better than distroying it

Re: FOR THE RECORD 1984 RECARO R.I.P

Obviously you think the car is important and shouldn't be scrapped, otherwise you wouldn't have felt the need to make note of it here. Some of us take it personally when someone scraps a piece of history. As has been discussed recently, we don't have to agree with it, and there's nothing in the rules of the forum that says we can't voice that disagreement.

It's trolling when you knowingly post something that's going to create unrest on the forum. Considering that this very topic (scrapping decent or important cars for no good reason) came up in the last couple weeks, and was a heated discussion, it would sure seem to qualify. Right off hand I can't think of anyone keeping registry's of these cars. About the best that can come from a thread like this is stirring up the pot, and upsetting people.

We have a classifieds with Parts For Sale and Parts Wanted categories... That would be the place to put something like this if it wasn't just to start trouble.

If this post or a post like this upsets anyone on this board, then these people need to get a life or buy the car from Dave.
The bottom line - it's just a car and right now it's Dave's car and he can do anything he likes with it.

Here's where people like you don't have any common sense to me...

You're going to hold that car hostage for $2,500 firm...but I am nearly positive there is no way in hell you'd part that car for anywhere near $2,500, especially with no drivetrain. You have some cool seats, probably a few unique things, but I am 100% confident you will never part that car out for $2,500, after taking your own time with labor to part it out.

BUT...

As an easy money deal now? You're $2,500 firm That, plus apparently you don't care if the car stays whole, either. ANYWAY...just felt the need to address why you don't make any sense to me.

Sooooo....post some pics. Let's see what you've got here.

For my 82 with no engine and transmission I paid 100 bucks... For a running 84 years ago I paid 800.

Re: FOR THE RECORD 1984 RECARO R.I.P

LOL It's a body with the numbers matching engine and transmission gone... It's not worth $4!t. You've got a $500-1000 car sitting there if all the parts are minty, and you take the time to sell them all. You might make $200 here, or $200 there, but it'll take you 6 months to a year to sell the majority of the parts, and the truth is that more parts will either sit in storage, or get destroyed, then you'll actually sell. Early cars have a few specific parts that are in demand, but the vast majority isn't interested in the parts that came on those cars, because they own later Thirdgens. There's little in the way of "cosmetic" or performance parts that people want off a car like that.

If you're just posting to document another one lost, post the VIN number and move on. Crying about the tragedy that you yourself is committing, and taunting members who are actually active here with your BS asking price is trolling. If you're trying to sell the car or parts it belongs in the classifieds.

It's your car and you can do what you want with it, but on this forum and we can voice our opinions that you are a butcher and a moron.

You are truly the Moron in this case.......
The BS comes out in some of your Posts.....
Sure you can voice your opinions and it has been fun getting some of your ridiculous comments removed after you posted them in the last couple of years.

Again these are just cars, you do keep me and I am sure others entertained with your posts.

I don't remember ever having to agree with what he is doing. Hell ya it's his car, but that doesn't mean I have to go "Oh well, it's his car so if he just parts out a car in perfect condition that only needs a drivetrain, then no biggie". I'm going to be angry at him for doing it and I am going to voice my opinion. I'm not holding a gun to his head and I really can't make him not part it out. For that reason, he can still do whatever the hell he wants with it.

Honestly, members like you make me sad. I belong to quite a few tech websites and people will help you and try to convince you not to do stupid things and people actually listen. Unlike this site where there is some bull headed OP that posts a topic, completely ignores everything said in the thread because no matter what it's getting parted out.

Why would you put $2500 on a roller in perfect condition? You would think you would want to sell it to someone so that you could see someone else with a thirdgen on the road. I know if it was me and I didn't want to deal with the title issue, I'd sell it to someone that would get it back on the road.

But then again, I actually do care about these cars. They are more than just a way to make money to me. I feel like some people on this site solely buy cars just so that they can part it out and scrap it. It's not something I agree with, and I voice my opinion about it. Sorry that I'm not tagging along with the OP in this thread.

Guys grow up honestly, it's Daves car he can do with it as he pleases. If you guys don't like it just don't say anything and skip the thread, it's that simple.

1) This is a public forum. I can do whatever the hell I want See, that's the beauty of this...I can't believe you post this on a Restoration board, and I'm the one full of B.S.??

2) I asked you for pics, and location. You don't want to deal with me?

3) If all you wanted to do is part it, YOU ARE IN THE WRONG FORUM. But something tells me you knew that...or, did you?

Re: FOR THE RECORD 1984 RECARO R.I.P

I guess I'm just not seeing the point behind this thread... You've got an OP whose name and signature suggests that his sole purpose is to scrap thirdgens, posting on the one sub forum where that's really frowned upon, and he's shocked that people don't like it? The OP is either oblivious or this thread was created solely to create drama. Either way he shouldn't get butt-hurt that people are being honest with him. If it's no one else's business what he does with the car he shouldn't have started the topic opening it to public discussion.

Some of you guys that don't care could try respecting that some of us do. This scenario of threatening to crush a car if someone doesn't want to pay several times the market value to rescue it, doesn't belong on this forum.

Funny, you must not be paying attention. Because my posts seldom get removed without a large portion of a thread being removed at the same time. And while you might not agree with me, every time a thread goes ugly on here I receive several private messages from people who agree with me. Ignorance is bliss, so keep on laughing **** for brains. LOL

Re: FOR THE RECORD 1984 RECARO R.I.P

Definitely have to chime in on this:

There're too many vultures for early birds.
They'll sell you parts for stupid f***ing inflated prices. These same people will turn around and offer you s*** for a decent condition running car, so they can rip it apart/scrap it, all the while telling you "how much it's worth".

I've dealt with this. Hence why my 82s not sold and probably now never will be. I'll keep that as my DD when the 83 goes back under the knife.
Can't save em all?? I'll sure as hell try!

They know who they are and here's a big F U to them.
