Wow those are some hot looking cars! I want the Yellow one! Just like the one I had 15 years ago. Except not sure that the paint is factory.

The problem with this post is that it is showing the asking price, not the selling price. You can ask whatever, but for historical reasons, it doesn't tell us anything about what they sold for in 2012.

I saw that black '83 TA online - think it was ebay. If I remember correctly, that asking price is about twice what it went for new back in '83. But it was amazing how incredibly preserved that car is!!! A guy could easily forget what year we are in when he looks at it. It is that impressive.

Re: mint original third gen cars for sale
I drove from IN to PA with the intention of buying that car but had to pass on it because it had some paint issues. Overall it was a very nice car but I couldn't see paying that much for a car that I would need to paint. I found another car locally 91 Z28 G92 5.7L 65K miles white w/ grey interior and got it for $5500.

This thread doesn't tell us much about the value of our cars. These are asking prices. All we can learn from this is that there are many low-mile, mint survivors out there and there likely will be for 10 or 20 more years. We can also learn that people are all over when it comes to valuing their thirdgen. Some think a mint survivor is high dollar, others think it's bargain basement. Buyer beware, there are some some deals and steals out there.
A better way of going about this would be to search through Mecum, Barrett Jackson, and eBay auctions. Post the actual sale prices, information, and picture of the car. That will let us know what our cars are selling for.

Re: mint original third gen cars for sale
Asking price and what a guy gets for it are obviously two different numbers. But this thread got me scratching my head. I previously thought that GM made entirely too many of these third gens for them to go up in value anytime soon. And when reading my Classic Industries book, there were fewer 2nd gens made in the early 70's (firebird book.) The birds went over a 100,000 units per year for a couple years during the 80's, but most years were under that number. (A couple years, waaaaay under that number.) But today, I saw where they had made 220,000 '67 camaros back in the day, and GM made 120,000 (moderncamaro.com) for 2010. The 1st gen camaros are bringing really good prices now. I saw a 77 matching numbers restored TA go for 37k on a Mecum auction at Kissimme this past January. So maybe the third gens will command significant prices in the future? Anybody else's thoughts on this? I am interested in what everyone else thinks.

alot of these cars are from ebay ,,maybe i will mark what they sold for ..
as for the barrett jackson auction , unless your going to take your car there and sell it you cannot base what your car is worth by what happens and the dreamers auction .. there aren't to many regular low mile irocs running there anyways ..

I don't think the production volume is the enemy though. There were way more '60s muscle cars built on the aggregate than '80s muscle cars, yet the former class has remained popular, saving for a few dips here and there. I think the biggest enemy is '80s muscle cars not catching on anywhere beyond a limited segment of Gen Xers. You need more than few people willing to blow $10k on a car because they're too scared to put a new deck on their house to drive values up in the long term. You need broad, sustained appeal.

Re: Mint, original Third Gen cars for sale.....
I remember each of these cars, I was looking all over the country then. Amazing to me how prices have gone up in only 3 years. That maroon Formula 350 above that was at SWCorvettes and classics was incredible, the best original that I had ever seen. Wish I had bought it...
